Easter

Is Easter brunch on the menu for anyone? This one is a big deal for us, because it will be the first outing for Mom for purposes other than medical in quite a while. We're (all six of us) headed to the Oceanarium, which has long been a favorite of ours for Easter. My nieces love (well, used to love...they're older!) to watch the fish, and the diver feeding them. Then I've promised to drive Mom by the Convention Center, since she hasn't seen it except on TV or in the papers. Should be fun!

I've done the Easter Brunch at the Oceanarium before, actually. (Or at least a restaurant in that hotel, but it was a Japanese place on a higher floor where you only saw a waterfall feeding into the tank.) Quite nice. It definitely seems to be one of the big days for the restaurant business, with popular spots selling out.

Though my family isn't religious, we've always seized on Easter as an excuse to gather. My dad this year is summoning us to a quiet Saturday afternoon at his house in `Aina Haina. (On Easter itself, it's out to my mom's to hide and dye eggs.)

This will be the first Easter I do not celebrate with the traditional family feast since I can remember. It will be spent having a BBQ with friends at the beach. Possibly because it will be the last one before our daughter arrives? Where I'm sure we will once again return to the traditional family gatherings.

I don't think we'll do the brunch thing although I LOVE brunch. It's kind of expensive for our big family and we don't want to take the chance of having to leave without getting our money's worth what with the one girl still having problems. We'll probably do a safe, cozy breakfast at home.

What was on the brunch menu? Your mom must've loved it! Hey, I walked past there late last year--where did you park???? :-)

Ali,
Brunch Menu - Oceanarium

Omelet Station
Prime Rib
Salad, Poke, Sashimi, Fruit Bar, Waffles w/ Strawberries or Syrup, Cakes, Pies, Baklava
Eggs Florentine Benedict
Potatoes Boulangere (sliced red potatoes w/ onions)
Rice (huge cooker--must've been 5-gallon size)
"Scottish Bangers" w/ Peppers and Onions (no more Scottish than nothin'--I've had the real thing in Edinburgh; the authentic ones are full of filler and meal; these were good old American sausages, but FAT!)
Veal in Mushrooms
Bacon
Smoked Salmon
Snow Crab Legs w/ Drawn Butter
Scallops, Shrimp in Sauce

And who knows what I missed. Mom had a great time; we got there about five minutes before they opened for the 9:00 seating, so I pushed the wheelchair around all the chow for her to look at.

We valet parked in the porte cochere out front; I had to call the hotel to get directions off Kuhio, 'cause of all the one-way streets down there! LOL...

Oooh! That's the way to do it! Go early and scout all the buffet lines! Go directly to the best parts! :-) Glad you all had a good time.
