Hu Dat Girl?

Who's a big Kelly Hu fan? Looks like we'll be seeing more of her in the Scorpion King. Did you know that she hangs out at Barnes and Noble while in town? I kid you not, saw her there a few times in the past, typing away on her laptop.

From SCIFI:

Kelly Hu, who plays the sorceress Cassandra in the upcoming action-adventure The Scorpion King, told SCI FI Wire that she wasn't distressed by the revealing wardrobe she had to wear for the film. "I have never been so scantily clad in my life," she said in an interview. "But I've never really had much of a problem with it ever since I was a kid."
Hu admitted that there was one scene that did make her a bit nervous. It occurs just after Cassandra and Mathayus (The Rock) share their first kiss. In the very next scene the two of them are seen lying together under a blanket, wearing nothing but smiles. "It was a little bit embarrassing because, even though they are not showing anything on screen, you know, I'm still naked in front of 150 cast and crew members. But they were very respectful, you know, they closed off the set." The Rock was also very understanding, Hu added--but he was allowed to wear clothes underneath the blanket. "Of course, he was only naked on top. It's always the girl naked. ... But let me tell you, when it was 110, 115 degrees out in the middle of the desert, I was the one happy to be naked."
After seeing the film for the first time with an audience last week, Hu said she was amazed at the reaction to the afterglow scene. "I was pleasantly surprised at the audience reaction to that. I wasn't expecting to hear a cheer. But it was great, though. I'll take it." The Scorpion King opens April 19.

For yucks, I always respond to her name with, "Kelly who?" Simpleminded, I know.

To be honest, she never registered with me until her regular role on Nash Bridges, a show I otherwise wouldn't watch but to which my grandmother's addicted (and at least it beats "Walker: Texas Ranger"), and a subsequent profile in aMagazine (ceased publication? no wonder I stopped getting my copy!).

Of course our friends at e-Hawaii Stars help sort out the Hawaii connections. I had no idea she was part-Hawaiian, and attended Kamehameha Schools.

"Scorpion King" might be a pretty big break for her (she's been in a few movies and all over TV, but nothing really headlining). And as a true measure of her draw, witness how many of her fan sites on freebie servers are now shut down for consuming too much bandwidth!

I just read at the e-Hawaii Stars site that she was actually Miss Teen USA at one point, and even did some ads for Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Interesting.

I also remember seeing her in Martial Law with Sammo Hung, where she played a cop from Hong Kong. (Martial Law: a show I stopped watching when they announced that Arsenio Hall was joining the cast...)

Um. I remember when Kelly Hu was crowned Miss Teen USA. She made a Jack-in-the-Box commerical shortly afterward, and people were all proud of her for doing so.

aMagazine bit the dust, eh? Too bad. That rag single-handedly made me think twice about being such a snow queen. I'm glad I got my Garrett Wang back issue before it went under.

I'm actually more of a Keiko Agena admirer. Her character on Gilmore Girls is a total audiophile. I can dig that.

Couldn't resist updating this thread after reading this review of Scorpion King, courtesy of our own Vivi:

And Kelly Hu? Yes, she has a prominent role in the movie, but those aren't the only things that are prominent. Yowza...she never wears anything to cover up her curves. And there were kids in the theater crowd. I can just imagine parents covering those kids' eyes every time she was on screen.

::LOL:: I was going to post an excerpt but I see someone beat me to it. Personally, I liked her better in Martial Law. :)
