Write on Site

I have always wanted to go to one of those expensive writing retreats where everyone with a love for writing gathers and creates and shares and draws inspiration from each other. Well now the joys of the retreat can be found at Reason In A Circle.

This great new site is the creation of Tyd, and was developed for the creative writer in us all. Instead of being asked to write an entire story, each member takes a turn at developing one story. As each member takes their turn in submitting their part, unexpected twists and turns in the plot are sure to happen. Once every member has participated, the story is then complete and a new story is developed.

I love this idea, and I think it is long over-due. It seems like the perfect place to practice writing skills, draw inspiration from others, and to have fun. It will be interesting to follow along as each story takes a life of its own. Check out the site for more details, and don't forget to sign up.

I love this idea, and cheer it on whenever escribitionists tackle it.

Most recently, Indiana journaler Aaron Lowe(Hollowstreets.net) had put together "Chapters: An Exercise in Collaborative Storytelling." It was an incredible blog-style setup, with excerpts from the latest installments of the three concurrent stories featured on the main page, with access to the archives of each, with a team of five or six writers taking turns.

Unfortunately, it petered out, but it looks like Aaron's going to give it another go.

A "fiction section" to HawaiiStories has always been one fantasy of mine, either collaboratively (like these two projects) or just featuring serial stories interested members might want to post... Someday?

I must be a terrible writer, because I'm terrible at these "add-your-own-chapter" exercises. I don't know why, but I never could create something that another person has started on. Yes, me! Miss Fanfics Is Me can't do one of these. I have no idea why, but I think it might have something to do with the fact that I won't be able to finish any story I contribute to.

And then for some reason, I can participate in online text RPGs, which, I guess, is much more ethereal and "on-the-spot" than these exercises. Meh, I'm weird...

I'm not much of a writer either. I is a good reader. I reads real good and I'm looking forward to reading the stories that everyone else will write.

As you may have already figured out, I'm not much a diarist since I've lagged behind in my posting.

However, if there is a fiction section on this site, I might, for obvious reasons, be better at posting something.
