Are Weblogs Changing Our Culture?

"But the speed with which an idea in your head reaches thousands of other people's eyes has another deflating effect, this time in reverse: It ensures that you will occasionally blurt out things that are offensive, dumb, brilliant, or in tune with the way people actually think and speak in private. That means bloggers put themselves out there in far more ballsy fashion than many officially sanctioned pundits do, and they make fools of themselves more often, too." —Andrew Sullivan

ain't it the truth ... :)

Or, as I always say, "What goes around always comes around - and it always comes around ten times faster when you post it on the 'Net." ;)

Of course! Think about it, your average Internet user is just themselves and there are lot of them vs your average pundit who more than likey have a staff consisting of researcher, script writer, and/or editor at their disposal.

I'm not so sure. For me the fact that I "own" my blog and take more time to think about what I write makes me much less likely to blurt things out than might be the case on a newsgroup or on e-mail. What I like about blogs is that generally they are more considered.

Oh, definitely. And at least if you realize overnight you've made an ass of yourself in your journall, you can quickly correct it (or at least add some remarks which confess you've made A). Email is the worst, no way to take it back, which is why "mail-lists" have been the most hazardous part of my on-line history.
