Day of Remembrance

Are any of you doing anything special for 9/11? If so, how will you commemorate this day?

I'm going to the Mozart Rolling Requiem at Kawaiaha'o Church, as listed in the Honolulu Advertiser's special events calendar. Maybe I'll see some of you there.

I'll be at work, but I think I might put Gabriel Faure's Requiem up for in-store play.

I'll be at work, too, but I'm also leaving early to go to church and light a few candles.

I'm also definitely NOT going to be watching any television, or listening to the radio, or even reading the paper.

I'll be at work, but will probably step out at 10:05 a.m. for the moment of silence.

Jen's thinking of going to the Requiem performance at Kawaiha`o Church, too, Ruth. Honolulu will be the second-to-last stop on the worldwide performance of Mozart's fittingly unfinished masterpiece (Samoa will chime in last).

We're keeping Katie home from school tomorrow, though. They're doing a cheesy "Aloha 9/11" thing at the stadium, and it doesn't suit me.

I went here to observe a few minutes of silence.

It was a nearly year ago that many of us were in the same exact place mourning the deaths of those thousands who were killed in the brutal attacks.

Ah, Mel. My office went down there last year as well. I remember being gladdened by how inclusive it was, and how much I was moved despite being the biggest cynic on my block.

I couldn't not do something this year, so I ended up walking down to Kawaiha`o Church from my office. I didn't expect the choir to be performing from the rear mezzanine, but in a way, it was a powerful effect - being surrounded by music, but with nothing to focus on except our own thoughts.

Powerful indeed.

Ryan, I saw you standing in the back. Not sure if you saw me.
