Wheels on Shoes

For quite some time I noticed that some kids tend to wear shoes that have wheels under them.

I don't know if this is a passing fad or not but a couple of days ago I noticed that an adult (well a pretty young one at that) wearing a pair of these shoes as he wheels across the sidewalk.

I didn't think they made it for adults.

In any event do these shoes have a special name?

Back in the early 80s, a local variation was called Pop Wheelies or something like that. I am afraid I don't know what they're called now.

Surely you mean Heelys and Street Flyers, right? Man. Last Christmas, every kid in my neighborhood got them and were wearing them every single day. It was the thing for anyone under 12.

Ironically, however, it's been a while since I've seen anyone wearing their wheeled shoes.

And don't get me started on Skechers and their God-forsaken Britney Spears rollerskates...

I think they've infiltrated every possible inch of Hawaii. However, I'm surprised I'm not hearing on the news kids breaking their necks. I get annoyed when I see kids sliding in stores, because I know they're bound to run into someone. Then I remember I'm a mean old grouch, and let the kids on on their way
