This Isn't Your Mother's Shoyu

My perception of shoyu is changed forever as a result of seeing this little promotion for Kikoman. Perhaps we need an Aloha Man.

That was... odd. The cuddling-in-bed image near the end was a nice touch. Somehow, though, I don't think that Shockwave animation is part of any official Kikkoman promotion.

Ah, surreal Shockwave animations — most purportedly from well-meaning but somewhat twisted artisans in foreign countries. Many a blog's filled its quota of "cool links" thanks to them.

They might look like cartoons, but the content is often most decidedly adult. You have the (click at your own risk) dancing boobies one, or the Lego Death one, the singing horses, the whatever this is...

On a shoyu-related note: despite living in Hawaii my whole life, I only recently figured out the general difference between Kikkoman and other shoyus, and thus which work best with which recipes. Kikkoman is decidedly sweeter, more of a caramel tint, whereas most other brands are first and foremost salty. Now I can only eat Kikkoman with my rice.

Ah...inexplicable Flash movies set to strange Japanese songs. Ryan, you forgot to link to my personal favorite: Yatta!. But that wasn't made by the Japanese. This Panasonic ad, however, was, and I'm still trying to figure out what exactly they're trying to sell.

Strange characters created in Japan have begun the rounds of Metafilter and Memepool again. So I credit them for this link. Of course, the Engrish version of the site is even more inexplicable.
