Traveling Light on Diamond Head

Monday's Star Bulletin reports that some time later this month the state will be charging an additional fee if you drive inside of Diamond Head crater.

Besides building a toll booth, the state has contracted to install lights in the tunnel and spiral staircase there by hikers not needing flashlights on that part of the trail.

No word if they plan on making a better way to exit the bunker to the outside since the reason for installing the lights was to make the hike safer.

Thanks - that's good to know, since my parents take that hike every week. And lights in the tunnel are a great idea. Why didn't they think of that sooner?

Just saw a piece on KGMB tonight (Saturday, 9/6/03) and it says that they will install the lights in October.

I figured it would have been done by now.
