Mmm... Gummi Beers

While labels are confining and usually insulting, I'm proud to call myself a member of "Generation S." And I can't be alone. TIME magazine named it the best TV show of the 20th century. And Homer's universal expression, "D'oh," made it into the Oxford English Dictionary. "The Simpsons is the one thing that binds together everyone I know from age 16 to 32," writes David Grenier. And everyone I know was therefore very eager to read an article purporting to list the Top 25 Simpsons Epsiodes Ever in the latest Entertainment Weekly.

Are you a Simpsons fan? What are your favorite (and least favorite) episodes? What Simpsons quotes do you use in everyday life? Even my daughter says, "D'oh!" As for me, I regularly blurt, "In your face, space coyote!"

If you are a Simpsons fan, you have to know about The Simpson Archive, an almost frighteningly complete and thorough reference that includes transcripts of every episode, indexes of show references to everything from the FOX network to the Teletubbies, and (one of my favorites) the list of every "Mmm..."

The official site isn't bad, either.

As for the Entertainment Weekly list, I liked many of the "best" picks (and oh, there were so many to choose from), but the "worst" list was dubious. There have been many awful shows, more in recent years, than the one they picked.

I would have to chime in and say that I am more a Flintstone person than a Simpson fan.

Nothing wrong with the Simpsons mind you.

Oh man, the Simpsons are excellent. There is no other show I can watch over and over and still get so much enjoyment out of.

The sheer amount of "quotationalism" (as _The Simpsons and Philoshopy_ refers to it) in the show is part of what makes it so re-watchable. Every new piece of culture you experience makes the show more enjoyable as you put together the places they've grabbed things from.

Contrary to what many people may have thought when the show first came out, it's clear now that the more widely read and culturally experienced you are, the better it gets. A superb show for snobs and non-snobs to watch together.

And, for what it's worth, I believe the most widely re-quoted character is the sea captain.

Oh Yeah, I'm a big fan of the Simpsons. It has always been my favorite animated series. Homer is my favorite character, he is so stupid and sincere it's just too funny.

Hmm, trying to name a few of my favorite episodes.

The Flaming Moe, Homer on Medical MJ, Homer goes to College, pretty much any episode where Homer is the focus.

My favorite scene without a doubt.. Homer is eating from a hotdog cart and Marge asks. "Do you just follow my husband around everywhere?"

As Homer stuffs his face with one more dog the vendor replies, "Lady, he's putting my kids through college."

The Simpsons rule all!!! Like most people I love Homer, but Ralph is just too funny.

"I think I bent by wookie."
"Me fail English? That's unpossible!"
"It tastes like burning."

My favorite episode ever isn't even in Entertainment Weekly's top 25. It's "Lisa's Wedding", and I love it so, just for the "Milhouse doesn't count" moment.

I fancy myself a Simpsons fanatic, although there are probably people who have seen every episode a hundred times. I kind of stopped watching regularly around season 11 or something. In my mind, it sort of, possibly, maybe a little, went downhill from there. It hasn't been quite as funny or well-written since the New York episode (which, I understand, has been pulled from syndication). Still, a bad Simpsons episode is better than most stuff on TV these days.
