Melona Bars

melona bar.gifMelona bars! ONO! I am in San Fran and can't find it anywhere! Does anyone know where I can get them here on the mainland? Also if I can order them right to my home in California? I have a strong weakness for melona bars!

Made in Korea, a melona bar looks like a pastel-green, single popsicle. It's made of water, molasses, skim milk powder, sugar and melon flavor. Each 2.46-ounce bar contains 5 grams of fat, 4 of them saturated, and 19 grams of carbohydrate, including 15 grams of sugar. Price is about 79 cents.

My suggestion is to try Ranch 99 (aka 99 Ranch). They tend to have just about every Asian product imaginable. And I know I've seen them at the Japanese supermarket complex off highway 280 in/near Cupertino (which also has the greatest Hello Kitty clearance table- stuff only sold in Japan- for $2-$3).

If that's too far, check a local Mexican grocery store. Good luck!

According to the 99 Ranch Market store locator, there's one in Daly City, maybe ten miles southwest of central San Francisco. Let your fingers do the walking to see if they carry 'em: (650) 992-8899.

Ooh, Melona bars. They are a bit of a recent development in my life.

I am not one for ice cream products, but the day I was moving into my new house, my landlady bought me some (banana flavored) and I have been hooked since.

Sinfully divine.

Hi,
I live in Korea and maybe there is some way I can send you some.I don't know how I would be able to keep them cool.I love them too so I understand your problem very well,
Take Care,

I found Melona bars at:

Kuk Jea Market
2350 Junipero Serra Blvd.
Daly City, CA 94015

It's a big Korean supermarket that opened a few months ago.

That Melona IS addictive!

Posted by 7train on April 8, 2003 4:57 AM:

For the New Yorkers, you can get them in Flushing, Queens, at the Korean grocery stores(and some delis).

We, too, are huge Melona bar fans. Anyone have any idea where we can find them in or around Baltimore, MD? Or any info on places that will cold pack & shiop them to us? Thanks!

OMG, Melona bars are the BEST! I just ended up here on your site because I was googling for MELONA bars!

Posted by Erika Engle on May 28, 2003 2:16 PM:

Costco sells BOXES of Melona bars for less than the regular grocery stores. Sam's Club might also have such good deals.
I almost picked up a box the other day but saw a huge box of 18 "Skinny Cow" ice cream sandwiches that offered more nights of desserts for my kids than the box of Melonas. They are also fans of the Ice Mony popsicle things, which I think are also Korean. Sometimes Safeway has 'em on sale for 99 cents a bag!

Posted by b on June 1, 2003 10:09 PM:

I know of a korean market right in the heart of San Mateo that has the strawberry and melon bars, all for a measly 80 cents.

It's a block away from Takahashi Market, which has fresh poi from Hawaii every Thursday.

I am a Melona-bar addict as well! I looked up "melona bars" on the net and got this site and chuckled to find so many people living in the bay area who got addicted at some point and were having a similar jonesing (I got hooked in Hawaii too). Thanks to everyone for posting the skinny on where to find these in the San Francisco area!!!

hi there fellow melona lovers. my husband and i are having the same problem in seattle! i personally think its a ploy to make sure we all return to hawaii! please let me know if you have info for the seattle area.

Posted by courtney on June 12, 2003 7:48 AM:

Yup, most Korean markets have Melonas. I found em here at Kyo-Po market in Santa Clara, as well as the aforementioned 99 Ranch in Cupertino as well as Milpitas.

Posted by alyssa on June 17, 2003 10:49 AM:

MELONA! Those things are awesome! I'm not even a huge melon fan, but when I tasted a melon bar, I FELL IN LOVE!

Wowee - Costco! I will have to check that out, although when I was at Costco last time I didn't see them.

I know a bunch of people already posted places, but for anyone in the eastbay, Pusan Market on Telegraph sells them (not sure of the address, and, yes, I know telegraph is long, but look in the phone book or something!) Good Luck!

Oh, how I long for another Melona taste sensation. Fell in love with them over on the rocks(Hawaii). Does anyone know where to find them in upstate New York?

Posted by Randy on July 26, 2003 2:55 PM:

Update? Hm... could be a problem. I'm in CT and I go down to flushing when I want them - thankfully they are the korean version and come in a hefty padded bag to make the trip home... dunno if the American imported version does. I would check whatever asian food stores you can find, and be hopeful! :)

Hey. Does anyone know where i can find melona in the great state of Utah. I would really appreciate some help.

Peace, Jason

Posted by Anna on July 29, 2003 2:20 PM:

This goes out to Jason. In Provo just by BYU there is a small shop that has it and other oriental goodies. It's by the D.I. and Sweet's hawaiian food restaurant. Just ask the locals there.

Oakland's Koreana Plaza (formerly Pusan plaze) has them - $4.99 for a box of 10.

My family discovered Melona Bars on the Big Island of Hawaii during Thanksgiving of 2003. The taste was one of my mother's last great pleasures before she fell victim to cancer this past April. We even served them after her funeral service. In Portland, OR, you can get them at a Korean market on 82nd Ave near Burnside. I don't recall the name.

i have been to hawaii twice and had melonas the second time i was there. I couldn't get them off of my mind. Does anyone know where to find them in the pasadena/los angeles area?

My wife brought home a box of Melon Bars (not Melona Bars) and it looks exactly like the picture on this site. It's made by Lotte Samkang Co., Ltd., Seoul, Korea.

She found them at an Asian store in San Mateo, CA on 4th Avenue just across the street from Wells Fargo Bank.

They are the greatest!!!!!

QUESTION:

If a cute drummer signs your poster (of him and the band) not with his name, but with the words: "My melona is hot."

What the heck is he trying to say? Is his ice cream melting? Are his drumsticks burning up? What exactly is he trying to tell me?

He's a cutie so I must know.

Now I'm in north LA. I checked at the nearby Mitsuwa, but no luck...anybody know where to get them around here?

I'm stoked to live in Hawai'i where I can indulge in Melona bars 24 hours a day. Yum. Peculiar thought: have any of you also come to think the strawberry melona bar resembles a tongue when its a little melted? I had one today that totally looked like a tongue...it kind of freaked me out.
