I feel like somewhat of an unrealized Asian, since I didn't know about this film until very recently. In fact, I remember catching the trailer on TV, and only briefly raising my eyebrow, thinking it remarkable that a film seemed to have an Asian male lead that didn't crack heads or speak with an embarassing accent.

Briefly googling around, I realize now that I did read something about this back when it debuted at Sundance. Specifically, about how Roger Ebert, in an unusual move, spoke up after a screening when someone criticized it.

Also, if you don't mind spoilers, here's an interesting take from the Movie Poop Shoot on how the ambiguous ending of BLT was apparently tweaked, but still ended up just as confusing (and perhaps not in as good a way as before). It goes into some detail, and it already makes me wish I'd seen the original version.

"To me, this new ending is obviously a cop-out. On top of which, the lack of a startling, amoral ending means the film now has -- hello? -- no ending, or a mushy inconclusive one, which is the same thing."

The trailer looks very interesting; not your typical teen movie.

Ebert & Roeper loved the film. You can hear their review of the film here:

They also mention the ending, but like the fact that it's a bit open, which they suggest might lead to a sequel.

I hope it comes to Varsity Theaters.

Better Luck Tomorrow actually screened out here at the Art House at Restaurant Row a while back...but that was before MTV Films got on the bandwagon and poured more money into the production.

FYI, the movie returns on April 25 if I'm not mistaken, again at Restaurant Row.

The Big Island is, for the most part, great . . . except that our access to anything like this is rather limited. With MTV involved, I guess there'll be a DVD in the future somewhere?

Oooh, baby -- cute Asian boys behaving badly. I am so there.

I saw this today. I really, really liked it, if for no other reason than the object of the lead character's affection, a girl named Stephanie played by Karin Anna Cheong, is so unbelievable beautiful I gasped aloud several times when she appeard onscreen.

Good flick. Go see her. I mean, Go see it.

Holy Shmoly.

First, I misspelled her name: it's Karin Anna Cheung.

Second, here are a bunch of pictures from her website.

Woo. I need a cold drink.
