Where to Celebrate?

This is partly a poll of favorite restaurants to celebrate momentous occasions in Honolulu, and partly a way for me to figure out where my family, friends, and I should go for dinner tomorrow night.

So, where is a good place to celebrate a graduation? There are visitors from out-of-state so we'd like to go somewhere that's unique to Hawai'i. Oh, and not too expensive. Gotta save all that money to pay back student loans...

Bucca di Beppo for not too expensive but good food for a bunch of people. If you like Italian, that is.

Sam Choy's?

BTW, Congrats!
And I tested out as Dr. X,
and was shuffled off to Purgatory.
Figures.

Oh yes, and I got the T-shirt at
the brand new Apple Store!

I don't know if it meets your price point, but The Willows in Mo`ili`ili is always a favorite for me when it comes to enchanting out-of-town guests. (It beat's Don Ho's, at least... by a long shot.) For a better bargain, there's always the trusty Pagoda Restaurant. And Sam Choy's and Kinkaid's are regular local favorites.

I also like Angelo Pietro's, for its nifty mix of Italian and Asian cuisine.

And yes, congratulations!

Ahem. That would be The Willows. Grins...

As I recall, the prices were in the mid-teens for the holiday buffet and slightly less for ordinary weekdays.

Okay I'm messing the name up I think but the best sushi place in the ENTIRE state is Tokkuru Tei on Kapahulu which is in the corner between Papa John's Pizza and Dave's Ice Cream. That place absolutely RULES...

And close second for me is the Hau Tree Resturant...great view, great food and prices won't break you. Then of course, Side Street Inn...that's definitely local. And though it's more of a chain resturant Kincade's at Ward Warehouse is one of my favorites too. Hy's Steakhouse has great ambiance...Pineapple Room in Liberty House ruled too but now it's Macy's so I don't know if it's still there...or wait, was it JC Penny's it was in? That's gone too so same uncertainty there... yeah, as you can tell I like to eat out.

Longhi's just opened at Ala Moana Center (I'd go to an early dinner so you could see the ocean view); Duke's gets points for being just off Waikiki Beach...

Well, after much deliberation, we decided to stay in Waikiki and go to Duke's. None of us had been there before, and I found the experience pleasant, albeit a bit touristy. But the out-of-towners loved it. :)

I know this is late, and it doesn't fit the late-evening celebration theme, but I LOVE going to Wai'oli Tea Room in Manoa Valley. The food is good, the quality his great, the price is great and the ambiance unbeatable. Don't forget to check out the Robert Louis Stevenson grass shack out back!

I live near the Wai`oli Tea Room, but have never been there. I used to get it confused with the other tea house up (I think) above Kaimuki, where you essentially BYOS (bring your own stuff).

If you're up Manoa Valley, there's also Treetops Restaurant at Paradise Park. It reminds me of the Pagoda Restaurant, in a way - comparable food and ambiance - but less crowded.

L'Uraku has a nice 3-course weekender lunch menu for something like $18, and can accomodate small parties. Parking is tough though.
