I've got a passion for...

I've got a passion for puppets. I spent the entire day today working on putting together an online puppet museum, and it got me thinking! After 10 hours of shooting pictures, and madly FTPing... What's YOUR passion?

Anybody really really really into something? Wine buffs? Mac fanatics? Baseball cards? Anyone?

I'd have to say that mine is collecting autographs. Not because I think celebrities are special, really. It's more a link to an era I wasn't around for. My absolute favorite ones in my collection are Maureen O'Hara, Fay Wray, Charmian Carr (Liesl from Sound of Music), Lena Horne, Joan Crawford and Clayton Moore (the Lone Ranger).

It all started when I met Bob Newhart and Don Rickles at a Danny Kaleikini show when I was 10. Hasn't stopped since.

Books, books, books. Especially fiction, any kind of fiction from acknowledged classics to the throbbing erection nonsense. I'm lost if I don't have a book to read, as happened early this morning. Unwilling to pay full price at 7-Eleven, I had to make do with the newspaper. Yeukh.

I recently picked up a passion for sewing. The desire swept over me like a wave just two weeks ago, and all I can think of these days is what's my next project (I just finished my first skirt!).

I'm very green, so if anyone can point me in the right direction in any aspect (sewing classes, best places for supplies), I'd love to hear it.

I'm a media addict. All media (films, music, the web), but specifically the journalistic kind - and, more to the point, media commentary, punditry, and criticism.

I have a Journalism degree, and while my day job has nothing to do with the press, I just can't get it out of my blood.

Locally, I browse by Ian Lind's blog and Burl Burlingame's "News Blues" page. Don't forget our own Jon Asato, who rips into Joe Moore and scrutinizes local journalists in general. Beyond our shores, who can go wrong with Jim Romenesko's comprehensive review (pushed into the limelight with the New York Times scandal).

I keep wishing I had the time to do it myself. I have way too many Internet domains to show for my many hare-brained Big Ideas(tm): HawaiiNews.com (dreaming of an e-news future), HawaiiMedia.org (now redirecting to a HawaiiNews.com forum), FactFilter.org (inspired by MetaFilter), and MetaJournalism.com (because I like the word) to name a few!
