They must have re-hired that Ben guy

I noticed that Jack-in-the-Box is selling something called "Turkey Jack". Decided to try that out today, while it is kind of medium pricey like in the $3 range it was kind of decent.

However I noticed that they raised the price of the "Jumbo Jack" to $1.29 but they were selling the "Hamburger Deluxe" for 99 cents and they even offer the "Hamburger Deluxe with Cheese" for a slightly higher price.

Which brought to mind an old Jack-in-the-Box commerical where a couple of Jack-in-the-Box employees were talking about the encounter of one of them suggesting to Jack to jack up the price of the Jumbo Jack to rake in the dough, Jack asked who he (the employee making the suggestion) was, he replied "Ben Valay" (or something like that) and you hear in the background someone yelling "I'm fired?" (which happen to be the actual Ben Valay).

I'm not sure which came first, but both Jack and McD's introduced "chicken salads" at about the same time recently. I wondered how KFC felt about that.

Now McD's has brought on a breakfast burger called Morning-something, I guess to compete better with the Breakfast Jack. Don't know how their other new morning items, the McGriddles, are doing, have only seen one person order one.

And McD's have two other new burgers, one with a name so non-catchy I can't remember it (Ultra Burger or something like that) and a double Big Mac [!].

So much for their supposed concern about contributing to obesity.

A shame about Jack raising the price of the Jumbo. It was the best burger in town at that price, but then I guess it still is, even with the increase.

Doesn't compare with the Bubba Gump burger, but then we're talking about seven times more money.

I think you're referring to the Morning Mac and the Mega Mac?? Not that I would even know this since I haven't been to McD's in a year....Damn, guess commercials really DO work.

BTW, I've heard some positive reviews on the McGriddles, but not enuf to persuade me to stop there on the way to work.

My mom tested all the new salads (McD, KFC, JitB) and said the winner was Jack's Southwestern Chicken Salad.

Okay, I'll step forward and admit that I've tried the Morning Mac (which is like Jack's Extreme Sausage Sandwich) and the McGriddles.

The McGriddles are yummy. The Morning Mac is okay, but it's a lot of sausage grease.

Oh, I love me them McGriddles. Despite the advertising campaign. And despite the fact that they're so disgustingly tasty, I know I'm shortening my life by several hours every time I eat one.

Burger inflation is no small matter, though. I remember as a teenager, my friend would track to the day when Whoppers were on a 99-cent special. Cheap eats, with a buck being the golden threshold. It's no coincidence several outlets have "dollar menus" (excluding tax, of course).

Steering away from the burgers, the Jack-in-the-Box chicken salads are way better than the McDonald's ones. I especially like the Asian Chicken Salad with the mandarin orange sections and almond slivers. And Jack's portion sizes are about three times bigger than MickeyD's, too. A big thumbs up to Jack for an actually not-bad fast food salad.

The only thing is, do they really expect that you can pour the dressing on and eat these things in the plastic bowls they provide? There's not enough room! I always have to dump the contents into a big, real salad bowl and toss them thoroughly before I eat them.

Yep, the "Mega Mac". Damn, so catchy, how could I have forgotten it. Seems to be a double quarter-pounder. I guess that and the double Big Mac is McD's way of celebrating not getting caught by the obesity-blaming lawsuits.

Talk about "burger inflation", well no White Tower here, where I can remember getting seven burgers for a dollar (never mind they were mostly chopped onion with a little beef here and there).

There used to be a burger place in the Ala Moana Makai Market - Aloha Burger, I think? - that sold little silver-dollar-sized "menehune burgers" which were actually pretty good. I don't think they're there any more, but does anyone else around town offer little mini-burgers like that?

Glen, that reminds me of Burger King's "Burger Buddies"! I think they were promoted as a kid's meal. I loved those things, but they came and went in a flash.

One of the first web pages I ever designed was a fake page demanding the "Burger Buddies" be brought back.

Glen, go to Eddie's Burgers & Frozen Custard, in Kaimuki, near the corner of Waialae and Koko Head. I haven't tried these yet, but I also like mini-burgers.

Albert, Safeway's freezer case (at least the Waimalu store) has White Tower burgers, if you're pining. ;)
