Eating places that are open all the time

Sin suggested that a new topic be started on places to eat that are open 24 hours or have late night hours.

Of course Like Like Drive Inn is at the start of that list, it's open 24 hours a day.

However across Rycroft Street from Like Like Drive Inn is another restaurant that is open 24 hours. I can't remember the name of it and I have never been there before in it's current state (it used to be a Pizza Hut Place back in the 1980's and maybe early 1990's).

Another place on the same block as Like Like Drive Inn and behind it is a place called Kam Boat which serves Chinese food, been there a few times for some take out. It's not a 24 hour operation but it's open to about 1 or 2am and it is closed on Mondays.

And then of course there is always 7-11.

Helen:

We can always count on you to get a good thread going when things slow down. This is one of my favorite subjects!

The restaurant where the Pizza Hut used to be on Keeaumoku is called Sorabol. It's a 24-hour Korean restaurant, and it's very, very good. I highly recommend just about everything on the menu, but I almost always get the dol sot bi bim bap. If you've had bi bim bap (mixed vegetables with a small amount of meat on rice), it's the same thing, but it's served in a stone bowl. This is one of those rare dishes that gets hotter the more it sits out--as you get closer to the bottom of the bowl, of course, you're getting closer to the heat. Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum. Many places that serve bi bim bap use boring, standard vegetables, but places like Sorabol, which include veggies you don't normally see in the produce cases at Star Market, really seem to make their version of this Korean comfort dish special.

Many people don't know it, but the Hungry Lion is not longer a 24-hour joint; it closes at eleven on weeknights, though it stays open 'round the clock on weekends.

As was recently discussed here, Liliha Bakery is also open 24 hours except between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

There's a 24-hour L&L at the Airport Trade Center on Paiea Street. I've been there a few times late at night, and it's always been pretty consistent.

Right across the street from the L&L is Byron's Drive-In, which is also open all day and night. It's not very good, but cab drivers and truckers seem to like it.

Anna Miller's, at Pearl Ridge Center, is always hopping, and has the added bonus of cute waitresses in short skirts.

Sorry about that.

If fast food is what you desire, of course there are several Jacks-In-The-Box open all night, but did you know that the Taco Bell at McCully Shopping Center has an all-night drive-through? Very useful to know if you're the type to wake up in the middle of the night jonesing for a burrito.

I know Zippy's goes without saying, but did you know that not every Zippy's restaurant is open all night? The Waipahu, King Street (in Kalihi), Pearl City, Ala Moana, Pearl Ridge, and Waipio restaurants have limited hours (I think Pearl City and Waipio go to 24-hours on weekends).

A couple of other places, though not eating establishments, you might haunt if you're suffering from insomnia: Wal-Mart, Daiei (Waipahu and Makaloa stores open 24 hours), Longs (three stores open all night: Pearl City, Stadium Park, and Pali), and Hawaiian Brian's Billiards.

Oh, and I guess we shouldn't leave out Ken's House of Pancakes on the Big Island.

Wailana Coffee Shop and Denny's is open 'round the clock; Eggs 'n Things opens at 11 p.m.

Wow Mitchel, leave some places for the rest of us to mention.

Okay, Taiyo Noodle across from KFC on Kapiolani is only open until 2 or 3 a.m. I think but they ROCK...walk through the kitchen in the back for the full effect.

Need I mention Eggs N Things? I think not because everyone knows about that place by now.

But do you all know about Cafe One Million or is it Million Resturant? Whatever, it's around the corner from the Blue Cross Animal Hospital on the corner of Kapiolani and Piikoi. They're open past 4 a.m. and USED to have the best steamed kalbi ever. They don't serve it anymore but the rest of the menu still rules. Plus they give you this tasty melon flavored chewing gum with your bill for dessert.

Hmmm...I'm sure there are more of these places out there. I gotta brainstorm though.

Are there any pizza places open 24 hours? When I'm off work at 1 AM I don't want Zippy's food, I want a pizza.

Damn James, if you find one tell me. I think everyone on Oahu would appreciate a 24/7 pizza place.

There is this operation that goes around to all the bars and strip clubs and some korean bars and sell medium pizza's for 10 bucks but i don't know what the name of the business is. They rake in the dough selling pizza to drunk men at 3 a.m. (yes I have been one of their customers). And the pizza's pretty good too.

Don't know if they're still there, but Round Table Pizza (Ohana East, across from Food Pantry)is open 'til 2 a.m.

Sin, you are right on the money regarding Taiyo Noodles, or as I call it, Taiyo Ramen.

I love the chicken curry on rice (plain, not katsu) with a side of gyoza. It is the BEST gyoza in Hawaii. Lots of garlic; I know because I was there in the afternoon one day and a halmuni was stuffing the gyoza, which she made from scratch, of course. Tons of garlic. That's the beauty of a Japanese noodle/ramen place owned by Koreans.

The kim chi is legit. And the miso ramen is nice. Best thing about Taiyo is quality plus quantity.
