The Return of Opus

I hope no one here is a fan of the Prince Valiant comic series that is shown on Sunday's Honolulu Advertiser.

Because it has now been replaced with Opus, that loveable penguin from the Bloom County and Outland comic series.

And it seems that the Advertiser has a tongue in cheek interview with Opus and the comic series "Heart in the City" shown on the Sunday's Honolulu Star Bulletin makes mention of it.

And as for me, I'm sort of laughing that today's strip has a scene where another pengiun says to Opus "Guido regurgitated a squid. Let's eat." and part of my NaNoWriMo piece makes reference to squid and regurgitation.

I am so disappointed the Star-Bulletin missed the boat on Opus. I've been looking forward to it for weeks, and just assumed it'd be there. Especially sad, as you mentioned, is that a separate cartoon run in the Star-Bulletin heralds the return of the portly penguin. I assure you, my colleagues there have heard my feelings on the matter!

I couldn't bring myself to buy an Advertiser to see it, but I'm sure someone on the web has it scanned...

[snark]
Prince Valiant belongs with Steve Canyon, Terry and the Pirates, Apartment 3-G, Mary Worth, and a whole slew of other story strips which have outlived their usefulness, if you ask me.
