Dr. Seuss's Cat In The Hat

Lisa and I went to see Cat In The Hat last night at Ward Theatre.

I love Dr. Seuss, all of his books, cartoons and even a play that we saw. But this movie stunk. I like Mike Meyers in everything but I found his version of the cat to be rather boring. There was no storyline, no hook, nothing to grab you and pull you in. The first hour was just a big black cat causing mischief inside a house with two kids. And in all my days reading and watching this story on TV, for some reason I never imagined the Cat in the Hat as sounding Jewish. Maybe Mike Meyers ran out of voices but the cat sounded exactly like the Jewish voice he did on his days at SNL.

Did anyone else see the movie? Or like it? We left after only an hour into it.

This comic pretty much sums it up.

This film has almost been universally panned. And yet, its presence is ubiquitous, with marketing and product tie-ins everywhere - from Burger King to the U.S. Post Office to seemingly every magazine under the sun. I can't get away from those red and white stripes, which is a pity, because before the commercial juggernaut, I loved the book and its characters.
