Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

With just four days until LOTR: Return of the King is released I was wondering if anyone's participating in a line party for the tuesday midnight opening on Oahu. Unfortunately, Wallace Theaters isn't showing the extended versions of the first two movies here in Hilo but we will be in line early to see LOTR: ROTK.

trying to decide if i should see the midnight show tomorrow at ward 16 or just wait until wed. it's going to be crazy at midnight tomorrow. then again, it might be worth it. This trilogy is everything George Lucas WISHES his Star Wars prequels were...hahahahahaha...

So has anyone seen the movie yet?

If so how was the crowds?

Not only have I seen it: I saw it Tuesday right after seeing the first two flicks (in expanded form) at Ward Theaters. It was very, very cool.

Except for the Gandalf sitting next to me who gave a running commentary to his girlfriend through most of the first two movies.

"What must I do?"

The movie was an epic, I'm sure Tolkein wherever he is (probably on "white shores" as Gandalf described the afterlife). I wish I could say that I knew for sure that the trilogy was 100 percent accurate to the books they were based upon but I was 13 when I read them and that was many MANY moons ago. Anyway, here's to the same director making the prelude to the Rings, The Hobbit. I'll watch that for sure too.

Check out the discussion on Slashdot.org about a certain recycled movie scream sound that appears to have been in all of the Lord of the Rings movies, as well as many, many other classic movies through the years... They link to sound clips... it's hilarious! See if you can recognize the sound...

Ah, the 'Wilhelm'! It was posted to MetaFilter in January. I think NPR re-ran its segment recently, and thus yet another generation of movie geeks can learn of the scream's history.

One of many 'Wilhelm' filmographies can be found here.

Thanks ZZ Type and Ryan! Just like the cigarette burns (by way of Fight Club), the "Wilhem" scream will be sticking out like a sore thumb every time I watch a movie... >_

But reading about it and checking out the filmography was very interesting.

Saw it on New Years Day at Ward. While the entire complex was crowded the 4:15 pm showing in one of the big screens there was not that filled.

By the way what is the thing going on with teenage girls and Orlando Bloom? A group of them cheered at his photo during the ending credits.

Beth wrote my favorite review yet of LOTR: ROTK. Not surprisingly, nearly every commentary I've seen includes some remark about the omnipresent gaggle of giggly members of the Orlando Bloom Fan Club.

I have a 19yr old friend who is head over heels for Orlando Bloom. He's handsome and all but he's no Johnny Depp(40yrs)and still a ladies man oh and Gary Oldman(psycho ladies man)I love him!

Do you think they deserve to win an oscar? I don't know about that! I think the last movie was good, but the ending was a little long winded and it seemed to be mostly a regurgitation of the second movie.. Its still a five star movie though... No doubt.. The series puts Star Wars to shame.. I think Peter Jackson should direct the next Star Wars.. Maybe it can be saved?

I don't know about whether ROTK deserves to win an Oscar, but I'm all for Peter Jackson (anyone!) rescuing the Star Wars franchise and getting it out of Lucas' hands!!

Orlando, he's cute and all, but Johnny and Gary are where it's AT!

You never know what you will get from a movie. ROTK was so good, I think I could watch it three times!!!
