From .AVI to VHS?

Been messing around with a few digital cameras that are capable of taking video images.

One of them a Aiptek DV3100 allows you to connect the camera to a TV or VCR and I was able to record the images to a VHS tape, however when you do this it also displayes the battery power indicator and the running time on the video.

To make a long story short is there any other product that allows one to transfer an .AVI file to a VHS tape? Stuff I have seen so far allows the transfer to go the other way (from VHS to .AVI).

This is definitely a hardware question, and any video card with NTSC/composite/S-video out would work. I've used the same ATI "All in Wonder" card in four different PCs, and its helped me both export video from a PC to a VCR, but import video from a VCR to my computer (for basic encoding to Real media). I'm sure there are also plug-and-play USB solutions as well.

ATI or Pinnacle probably have something to suit your needs.

Forgive my ignorance, but why would you want to tranfer an avi to a VHS when you can transfer an avi to a VCD or DVD?

I have an ATI all in wonder card that has the capability to export software video to VHS, but I can't figure it out. Is there a certain program I need to maximize the transfer process, or a button I need to click or something? I can get pc full screen games to record, but video shows up dark purple or black.

Well, I cannot speak for Helen but as for myself the reason why I want to put an AVI file onto a VHS tape is because my 4 year old niece can work the VCR but I don't especially want her to get anywhere near my pc, nor do I want to sit through any sing-song movies meant to entertain a 4 your old!!!

Does this answer your question? :)

If your sending your AVI out the back of your video card to a VHS tape deck, avoid Windows Media Player which, generates wider than normal pixel ratios and has an intrusive start display. Try playing the AVI with a diff app like Power DVD.
Good Luck

PS The need for VHS comes from the requests of customers.

Actually my PC is a Windows 98 system that due to my forceful butterfingers can't go beyond 64Mbytes and the DVD writers need at least 128Mbytes.
