Hawaii, moreso than many places, has a long history of celebrities (and journalists) converting their name recognition into political success. Though Brickwood does have some past political experience, I don't know if it predates his time in front of the mic or the camera.

I wonder if he'll have to give up his voice/face time on the radio and TV once the campaigning really gets going? Do "equal time" provisions complicate local elections the same way they do national ones?

Keep in mind that being the party chair, in and of itself, isn't really a stepping-stone position. Most party chairs never go on to elected offices. Linda Lingle is the exception, but then again she only took the post after having been mayor of Maui already.

Maybe I'm the ignorant one here, but besides being a great guy, fun radio personality and engaging cooking show host, what other qualitifations does the Brickster have for heading up isle democrats...or am I giving that organization too much credit???

Here's perhaps a more relevant question: who in the past (besides Lingle) has also served as president? I seem to recall Walter Heen, no?

There are a couple of odd words now flagged by the system used to keep "comment spam" off this site. The oddest words, and more than a few common words, are on the list... but right now, I figure writing around the filter now and then beats having to wake up with 1,539 spam comments to clear out.
