Care Packages

I've learned that there's a fine art to preparing a care package -- especially one that is going overseas through military channels.

There's a great deal preparation that goes into it. Boxing, packaging, ziplocking, bubble wrapping, and taping... lots and lots of tape. My boxes often look as though the entire surface of the box has been laminated. I take pride in doing everything I can to ensure that my package gets to Hubby with its precious cargo in tact.

Donna, because many of us don't personally know anyone stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, it's often difficult for us to show our support and appreciation to the men and women bravely serving our country.

With your consent, perhaps HawaiiStories could adopt your husband as our soldier, so in a small way we could show our support to a local service person.

With Ryan's help, perhaps an area of the site could be designated for your husband, where people could read the occasional update, count the days when he returns home safely, and make a small donation if they wish to help send some Aloha from the islands.

I don't know how you feel about this suggestion, but I thought I would share it and see what you think.

Kane, I'm touched by your suggestion! I think that would be a great idea! We could start the ball rolling with Hubby, but I would like to open it up to others in the HawaiiStories ohana -- as well as other visitors to include their loved ones overseas as well. I was wondering how to do this when I first learned of Hubby's impending deployment -- to somehow reach out to those soldiers and their families. Maybe this might be an excellent way to do so? :)
