Holiday celebrations

Unfortunately, this year I'm looking for alternatives to attending the family holiday parties (Christmas and New Years). I don't usually do this, but 2004 presents drastic changes in the routine family get-togethers due to the departure of several relatives who always hosted these parties.

In short, I'm looking for other events to attend so that I can skip this years' family parties. Does anyone have other plans/alternatives to attending family get-togethers during the holidays?

You could always throw a Festivus observance on Thursday...

How 'bout catching the free trolley that takes you around the Capitol District to see the Honolulu City Lights? Get on one and stay on it all night, or until you get dizzy. Just try to ignore the scrooge-esque political display...

You could always see if there are any upcoming MeetUp.com gatherings you're interested in...

Oh, or you could just take on the challenge of planning an ever-overdue HawaiiStories.com picnic (or last minute hui that may or may not involve picnicking)!

Aloha Jenn, I wish I saw your post sooner. Anyways, if you don't find anything to do, you're welcome to come to my family's party in Aiea tomarrow. If you get this message in time. It starts at 12:00 pm. However, if you need a ride, I'm still able to drive pretty good, MAMA and I can pick you up. Should be done by 6:00 pm. Then I have another party to go to and if you want to come,it's all up to you. I miss my son and daughter, we've got plenty of ono food and you'll be safe from harm. It's XMAS and I don't want you to be left out. Your post touched my heart because of what you said that most of the party givers had passed on. It's your decision, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. It's not that I don't have anything to do today - I was just looking for ideas since most places were closed today. Lynn, thanks for the invitation; that was very nice of you to offer.

In any event, I'm just hanging out and enjoying doing - absolutely nothing. It sounds like a boring way to spend Christmas, but it's really not. Now we have plans to catch The Aviator tonight, though.....
