Workplace justice in a right-to-work state

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

It’s coming to a head, some would say.  What the heck do I mean by that?  If you’ve taken the time to read some earlier posts on this blog, you might suspect that things aren’t so rosy at this writer’s place of employment. So, if for nothing more than your entertainment, here’s the latest.

Basically, first things first here, if you will.  One of the things that go with living in a right-to-work state is the fact that you can be fired at anytime for any reason or no reason, whatsoever.  Be sure you give two weeks notice if you intend to leave, BUT, if they want to get rid of your A.., it’s aloha oe, hasta la vista, see ya later, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. THAT’s reality!!!  Like it or not, it’s get rid of one warm body, replace with another warm body for less money and SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!! The exception is the company that truly gives a damn about their employees and the contributions they make to the growth and success of the business.  The big picture revolves around the bottom dollar and the deposit that goes in the bank at the end of the day, isn’t that so?  We’re cogs in the big wheel.  Keep marching and don’t get out of step.

Don’t make waves!  Don’t rock the boat!  Keep your mouth shut and your nose to the grindstone, or however that saying goes. Bend over…..that bonus is on the way.

Got a legitimate complaint?  Follow the chain of command at all times, that’s one of the golden rules.  And if you’re not getting any response by doing it that way????……..Ohhhhhhhhhh,  pooor baaabyyy.  There’s just nothing that can be done.  And DON’T EVEN THINK about jumping the chain of command!!!!   No, don’t even go there.

You want JUSTICE? You say you wanted to be treated FAIRLY?  What the hell is THAT? Oh, crap….now you’ve done it..you rocked the boat.  There’s a price to pay for standing up for yourself and speaking your mind. It’s called U-N-E-M-P-L-O-Y-M-E-N-T!!  It’s called T-E-R-M-I-N-A-T-I-O-N!  Those are two words that may be staring me in the face when the sun comes up on Friday morning.  But let it not be said that I didn’t stand up for myself and against the injustice that’s so blatant.  It’s that in-your-face reminder that THEY rule, and I’m supposed take the crap, and keep my mouth shut…….or OPEN, maybe.  Just don’t say anything.  And is it funny how those who don’t earn respect feel entitled to and demand respect. It’s not.

But aren’t there some laws, even in a right-to-work state that ensure my right to work without being hassled?  Don’t I have ANY rights at all?  Can they just try to run right over me and I have NO LEGAL recourse? Fair labor board?  American Civil Liberties Union? Lawyers who specialize in workplace discrimination? HeLLOOOOOOOO?? Is there anybody out there?  Will my cries for fair treatment (NOT special treatment) go unheard?

If I leave the building, walking papers in hand, the answer will be known.  Things happen for a reason, I hear.  I will continue to do my job to the best of my ability to the last day of my employment, but I WILL NOT ROLLOVER on command.

I WILL NOT BOW DOWN!!!
