A Feast for Crows

I think I’ll start using this blog to also keep track of books I’ve read recently.

The state library’s computerized catalog used to have a great feature where you could get a list of all the books you’d checked out for the past x months, but that feature got shut down, I suspect as a response to the USA Patriot Act. Damn. I loved that feature, it was really useful as a personal reference tool.

First up:

A Feast for Crows, by George R. R. Martin.

Fourth book in a projected series of, what? seven? eight? massive volumes of high fantasy. Feudal politics and intrigue, more viewpoint characters than you can shake a stick at, and just enough magic and weirdness to keep you off balance. While he was writing it, GRRM realized that the book was going to be too big, so he split it in half and had the publishers print just the first half. The next half is supposed to be out this year. So this book has only half of the viewpoint characters; the other half will be in the next book. I understand the reasoning from a practical angle, but it does leave the book feeling incomplete.

Um, by chance would you be interested in an unpublished fantasy for young adults?

My to-read stack is too high as it is. Sorry, but no.

A belated nod to Kate Nepveu, whose blog put the bug in my ear to log my books this way.
