On extended consideration, I suspect the little red-beaked finches I'm seeing are exactly that -- house finches.

Since you mentioned it, I went and googled them just now and was amused to find out that I have been using the old-fashioned names for the Brazilian cardinal, a.k.a. the red-crested cardinal, and the fairy tern, a.k.a. the white tern. Here's a useful summary page for the common birds of Honolulu.

I Googled all the birds you tallied (except for chickens and sparrows, of course, for, um, obvious reasons), and I'm so glad I finally learned the names for several of the little feathered friends that I see all the time but never knew their proper names. Especially the kolea, which I see all the time and can't help but laugh at their gangly legs, like they're walking on stilts.
