Tarn, Tun and the three ground troopers walked around the edge of the bottom of Joo-Nine. Tarn attempted to impress the actual sound of what the Arcevar Nover called Joo-Nine, which sounded like a cough in their language. Tun tried many times to do the sound, but he could never do it right.
The ground troopers tried to make the sound also but they could not get it right and gave up way before Tun finally stopped. They thought they had failed. If Lord Zonar were here seeing this he would have all four terminated on the spot for being failures at what they did. Tarn for his part thought these four at least tried something new. While in their eyes they had failed, he didn’t think that they did such was the way of the Tal-Ro.
“What are we looking for?” asked Tun
“The diagram of the Arcevar system.” replied Tarn
“I thought you said that the diagram is on the top of this device?” asked Tun
“Maybe we should play back that message that Wub managed to record.” suggested Tarn.
“It would be a wise course of action.” said Tun.
“You think you can operate the recording device?” asked Tarn.
“It should be possible to do with out the aid of Wub.” replied Tun.
Tun touched a few controls on the on the recording device. He was better at dealing with recording device then attempting to say the Arcevar Nover name of Joo-Nine. Finally the recording device broadcasted in the trade standard of the Dicon:
This is outer marker Joo 9 of the United Nations of Arcevar Nover. We are broadcasting this message in the Trade Standard Language of the Dicon Galactic Empire as one of the 80 spoken languages known to us. This is message greeting number 55 of 80.
Repeat this is outer marker Joo 9 of the United Nations of Arcevar Nover. The planet of Arcevar Nover is the third planet away from the star in this system. A rough diagram of this star system layout is on this outer marker.
This diagram will show a system of 9 major planets. Beginning from the star Arcevar are 4 small planets, then a ring of minor planets, 4 large planets and 1 small planet. This outer marker is found between the orbits of planet 5 and planet 6. Do not interfere with operations of this outer marker.
Warning do not hyper jump with in confines of this system. They are many minor planets in this system that make such travel hazardous.
We are a neutral planet and not allied with any other star faring race. If your intentions in entering this system are for peaceful contact be it for scientific, diplomatic, trade or exchange of cultural information we will welcome such contact. “It doesn’t say that the diagram is on the top of the outer marker, just that it is on the outer marker” said Tun.
“Then there is the possibility of it being on the bottom of the outer marker.” suggested Tarn.
“What are strange place to put the diagram.” said Tun.
“Not everyone thinks the same Tun.” said Tarn.
As they continued walking around the bottom of Joo-Nine one of the three ground troopers pointed to a section of Joo-Nine. Tarn and Tun went to the ground trooper, looked at what the ground trooper had pointed too.
“I do not think that is the diagram of the Arcevar Nover.” said Tun
“Agreed” said Tarn
Tun and Tarn looked at one another.
“It might be what a being from Arcevar Nover looks like.” said Tun
“Are you guessing?” asked Tarn
“Yes” replied Tun
“I did not think guessing was part of your life.” said Tarn
“It is.” said Tun “It is just that it is very dangerous when one guesses wrong around here.”
“Strange.” said Tarn
“About the Arcevar Nover?” asked Tun.
“I was referring to you.” replied Tarn
“Then I am not alone.” said Tun “It would be interesting to see one of these Arcevar Nover. A being with 4 heads, two different sets of legs and two big body parts. I wonder if one of those heads has a hand to hold and make things.”
“Maybe one of those set of legs are actually the arm with hands.” suggested Tarn.
“Strange beings building strange outer markers.” said Tun
Tarn and Tun heard another ground trooper say something. They went to the place where the ground trooper was. He was pointing to another section of Joo-Nine.
“What is it?” asked Tun
“Heard something.” replied the ground trooper.
“It might be Wub and the fighter pilot.” suggested Tarn
“It was not.” said the ground trooper. “Saw something come out.”
“Where?” asked Tun
“There.” pointed the ground trooper to a spot on Joo-Nine.
“Tarn” said Tun “Looks like this ground trooper found the diagram of Arcevar Nover.”
Tarn looked at it and saw a diagram with one large circle in the center and 9 smaller circles of various sizes around the large circle. There was a small strange symbol between the 5th and 6th circle. There were a lot of small circles in between the space of the 4th and 5th circle.
“Yes he did.” said Tarn, he then turned to the ground trooper and said “Well done my young friend.” Before Tarn could say any more, the third ground trooper yelled and pointed to another bottom section of Joo-Nine.
Tarn, Tun and the other two ground troopers went to where the third ground trooper stood.
“What did you see?” asked Tarn.
“Heard something, saw something move.” said the third ground trooper.
“I don’t see anything” said Tun.
“Could you describe it?” asked Tarn
“Never saw it before.” said the third ground trooper. “Never heard it before.”
“Strange sounds coming from this, this outer marker.” said Tun “So far anything to do with this outer marker is strange. The beings that made it are strange, in shape. They place their diagrams in strange places, on the bottom of the outer marker not on the top where anyone else would have placed it.
“No doubt from the Arcevar Nover point of view,” said Tarn “that the ones who study this outer marker are strange.”
“Agreed” said Tun not knowing that Tarn was speaking of them. Before he could realize his last statement he heard a couple of voices coming from the area where they found the diagram of the Arcevar Nover system yelling “Tarn!!!”
