Forward to the on-line version of The Specimen
The Specimen could be best classified as a short story in the science fiction genre and is my entry for the National Novel Writing Month 2003. The version presented here only stands at roughly 21,400 words.

Chapter 1
“Gy’Well, Team Twenty Five reports they are aboard the space ship.” said Ty’hill.
“Thank you Ty’hill” replied Gy’Well.

“Hey Par Too can you see this?” asked Tul Wun
“Yes I see the commander and Yut.” replied Par Too, “where is De Kar?”
Chapter 3
“You three ready?” asked Tul Wun
Tul Wun heard three “Yes” from Yut, De Kar and the commander.

Gy’Well and Loo Tan Wun looked at the being that the Outcast brought back from the space ship, it was lying on a bed in a separate section of the Triskewura medical area, also in that section were two other Fodani who were trying to treat the survivor’s wounds.

“Are we ready?” asked Les who then heard four yeses and one no. “Dan was that you who said no?” asked Les
“It is” replied Dan
Chapter 6
“So he is an explorer, tasked with surveying worlds for life forms?” asked Gy’Well.
“I believe so” said the shimmering being.

“I think I found some thing.” said someone, Dan and Les did not know who it was who said it but by the time they got there the rest of the survey team gathered at the spot. Les could not believe at what he saw and either did Dan.

“What did they find?” asked Gy’Well
“From the description the survivor is giving me it sounds more of an unnatural object, than an actual life form.” replied the shimmering being.

“Are we ready?” asked the commander
“Are you sure this is a good idea Kar?” asked Tul Wun.
“It is De Kar not Kar and why are you asking me for, it was the commander’s idea to come here not mines.” replied De Kar.
Chapter 10
“Yes it would be very ironic if taking these specimens back to our world would cause death and destruction.” said Dan
“It will not” said Les “It might cause some debate, changing the way we think about our self but life on our world will go on.”
Chapter 11
“They managed to capture the specimen?” asked Gy’Well
“Yes, it was only one of it and they were six of them, the specimen did not try to elude capture or even put up a fight.” replied the shimmering being.
Chapter 12
“So how is the newest specimen?” asked Dan
“It is trying to reach for one of the first specimen we had collected earlier. Jel and Wen are holding the new specimen” said Les
Chapter 13
“So the specimen has killed two of their kind?” asked Loo Tan Wun
“Initially.” said the shimmering being.
“There were more?” Loo Tan Wun
Chapter 14
“We must capture the specimen, to have it roam freely on our space ship would mean the death of us all not to mention if this ship makes it back to our world, it would cause a disaster if it got out on our world.” said Les.
“No we must destroy it before it destroy us.” said Dan.

“Did either group find the specimen?” asked Gy’Well
“The group that went to check the lab encountered the specimen.” said the shimmering being.
Chapter 16
“I heard someone screaming in pain.” said Dan
“Look it is Dude.” said Wen “and on the floor it is Jel.”
“What happen?” asked Les
“We were trying to check the lab.” said Dude “we saw the specimen on the outside of the lab trying to get in, it saw us while we approached it and then a ball of energy streaked at us and struck Jel. Jel is dead.”
Chapter 17
“Ty’hill what is the status of the Outcast have their finished their training exercise?” thought Gy’Well.
“One of them suffered a slight accident during the exercise and is currently being treated by Ky’Mod.” thought Ty’hill.
Chapter 18
“Do all your people have similar sounding names?” asked De Kar
“Why do you ask that?” asked the commander
Chapter 19
Yut did not like this situation, the last time he was in a line with his comrades besides him and with his supreme leader in front of them that said leader wanted to kill them all for being failures. The latest incident at the Arcevar eating area sort of reminded him of that but the Fodani leader Gy’Well did not strike him as the type to kill failures. The Sidone leader on the other hand was not too happy with the Outcast team. He never was happy with them in the first place, this latest incident simply reinforced his feelings of the team.

De Kar and the rest of the Outcast team where in the Triskewura shuttle area, she noticed it was the same shuttle that was used to go to the space ship on the last mission and the very same one that brought her aboard the Triskewura from the planet that the Triskewura crew referred to Larbane C Four.
Chapter 21
“As they say on your world, it is a small universe commander.” said the shuttle pilot.
“Yes it seems that way isn’t.” said the commander. De Kar could not remember the shuttle pilot’s name even though this was the second time she and her team used the services of this shuttle pilot.

“Has the situation resolved itself?” asked Loo Tan Wun
“Yes.” said Gy’Well “Ty’hill informs me that the commander was able to resolve the conflict with out the use of force.”

"When we get to the space ship, Ty'hill, De Kar and I will check things out to make sure it is safe." said the commander. Ty'hill and De Kar nodded in agreement.
"Ky'Mod you will be in charge of the shuttle, if we run into trouble that we can not handle." said the commander
Chapter 24
“You feel the changes in the mission objectives is necessary commander?” asked Loo Tan Wun.
“I do sir. There is a lot of things we do not know about the space ship, who built it and why. We still need to study it, examine the dead bodies to see what really happened but I do not want to engage in unnecessary combat with either the crew or this specimen that they have collected.” said the commander.

“So what has changed?” asked Ky’Mod
“If we can’t recover the bodies from the space ship due to interference from either the crew or the specimen then we won’t get into trouble with Gy’Well and Loo Tan Wun when we return.” said the commander.

“Would this situation be considered a dark and stormy night?” asked Ty’hill
“A what?” asked De Kar
Chapter 27
Ky’Mod noticed that Ho Hi Zun was not pleased after the commander told him to shut up.
“How can you stand being around with those two?” asked Ho Hi Zun

“This is strange.” said the commander
“What is?” asked Ty’hill
Chapter 30
“Dan you must not panic.” said Les
“I know we need a plan of action.” said Dan “We need to deal with the specimen and the offspring it has generated. Maybe it was a bad idea to leave San and Gem outside.”

Ton Gar noticed that Ho Hi Zun was pacing around the shuttle and said “Is there some thing the matter Puma Gum Pon?”
“We should be out there engaging the enemy in combat, not sitting in here doing nothing.” replied Ho Hi Zun
Chapter 32
Ho Hi Zun noticed that the corridors of this huge space ship are dark but there were rods above him that lit up part of the corridor. The light from these rods was not constant, he stopped to look at it but the call of combat was too great.
“We must go back” said Ton Gar “Puma Gum Pon.”

Gy’Well entered the section where the survivor was kept, he needed to inform Loo Tan Wun on the latest information received from Larbane C Five concerning those rods that was used against the Triskewura crew on Larbane C Four. The incident on that planet divided the crew, communication and goals were mixed between the ground force teams and the star ship’s crew and crew that flew the star ship’s fighters and shuttles. It was a worse incident that the one on Larbane A star system. That incident the worse that was suffered was the Sidone crew feeling a lost of honor because the officer in charge at the time just ran away and not engage in combat. The incident at Larbane C Four some members of the crew got hurt and two Arcevar Noveren were lost and presumed dead. This did not set well with the remaining Arcevar Noveren on the Triskewura or the ones stationed at Larbane C Five who were helping guarding the planet from what ever causing the their inhabitants to disappear without any trace.
Looking around he could out find the Fodani that was assigned to care for the survivor, the image of the interrupter was off and the survivor was gone too.
“All Triskewura crew members” thought Gy’Well “who can receive me, the survivor is ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!”
Chapter 34
“Shuttle one, this is shuttle two can you receive us?” said the voice
“This is shuttle one, is that you Gunny?” said the commander

It had dragged it's prey by it's lower limbs to another room, it took a while for it to understand how to go through the walls of this place but once it figured out how it was done it was not that hard to do. After entering the room the dragged prey moaned.
"So you are still alive, it seems that I under estimate the amount of damage it will take to kill you. No matter you will be dead soon enough demon." It said.
Chapter 36
"One last chance to do this peacefully." said the commander
"You must be a fool to think I would give all this up to food like you." said the survivor
Chapter 37
After so much darkness light could be seen, the presence of things around could be sensed and familiar sounds to be heard.

“Ship’s log mission time Thirty Four dash Eight Four Five, The UNRV Woodlawn has entered the confines of a star system that Dicon Galactic Empire has designated as Larbane B, we are here to survey this system in order to locate the home world of a race that the Fodani Collective starship Triskewura has recently encountered in the Larbane C star system.” said Lieutenant Commander Delilah Hendricks as she then turned off the ship’s recorder.

“What photos?” replied Carolyn Oshiro
Chapter 40
“Everybody knows everybody here right?” asked Doctor Edna Cruz
“I hope so, we have been on this star ship since it left Larbane B Five six weeks ago.” said Lieutenant Commander Karen Baxter.

“Ahh Ton Gar you want to take a break.” Said Par Too
Chapter 42
“Ship’s log mission time Thirty Four dash Eight Seven Four, For the past twenty nine hours the UNRV Woodlawn has been surveying the Larbane B star system looking for the home world of a race that calls themselves the.” Said Delilah as she pauses the ship’s recorder.
“Okay what did the Triskewura call these new guys?” asked Delilah
