I fell a bit off the pace tonight. While procrastinating quite pathetically until well after 11 p.m. was part of the reason, I also took some time to do the unthinkable: look ahead, and wonder where the hell this story is going.
It's supposed to get around to Hawaii eventually, right?
So I set down a historical timeline (which I realized I needed after noticing I was referencing years here and there and needed to be consistent), a little glossary, and actually did some honest-to-goodness research. Sure, it was research about space, and that probably means a growing sci-fi scent, but... I'm just going where my novel leads. I'm more transcribing than directing.
I made minor edits and additions to earlier chapters, as well, though I might not get around to uploading them to this site tonight. Some spelling, some fleshing out, some silly changes (the Magic Mushroom is now the Mellow Mushroom, since there actually is an establishment by that name in Atlanta).
Tomorrow -- er, today -- is General Election Day, and I'm going to spend most of the night watching the returns with my candidate in Kaneohe. I suspect I'll fall even more behind, as a result.
Surprisingly, though, I'm nowhere near as discouraged as I was at 6,666 words last year. I should clear my personal goal of 10,000 with no problem. (We'll talk 50,000 later.)
