The staged home, part 2

As I said, I’ve been thinking a bit about the possibility of selling my house a few years down the line, and the idea of living in my home, now, as a staged house is intriguing. I love the lack of clutter and resultant spacious feel of a staged home. Why not live like that now? Why not get rid of clutter and come home to a house that looks special every day, not just when (after an exhausting bout of cleaning) I’m expecting company?

I guess what I like is the sesne of potential that I’ve experienced in those homes. The bad ones are fake and sterile, but the good ones make you envision your life in those homes. The house is ready for entertaining … sitting down with the extended family and chatting … sitting in the kitchen with the immediate family and playing board games … meditating by yourself … practicing the piano, reading in the tub, or blogging in the den.

I’m going to try to envision (because I can’t afford to hire a home stager - the article I read said the starting cost is $2500 - with a monthly “freshening” fee) how my home would look if it were staged. This is a step beyond just straightning up and cleaning - this is “how would my home look if it were open to its highest purpose - a haven, nest, launching pad, sanctuary, welcoming warm embrace for me, my family, and friends.” Once I have that vision, I’ll try to put it in place, room by room. I’m quite interested to see what it will look like….
