If you’ve been a reader of INFINITY BLOG, you already know that the title may be a hook to lure in the masses, but this one will actually touch upon the craze of online social networking.

Social networking has been a consistent phenom for the greater part of the millennium and I for one am chasing many hooks cast into the sea of the world wide web. We, (INFINITY PRODUCTIONS is the fusion of two souls, complimented by two more) have a reserved SPACE, FRIENDSTER, and would have been happy to upload our FACES, however INFINITY PRODUCTIONS is an unacceptable first or last name. If you’re wondering what we’re doing when we’re not with you, you can FOLLOW US or JOIN US. You can POWNCE on us, make us part of your TRIBE or even FLICKR or TUBE our okoles. And, if you cannot reach us in the office, at home, on our cellular phones, or by text message you can try SKYPE.

But why all of this social networking? Are we lacking of friends or worse yet are we lacking a life? Far from the truth, and I believe I’ve found the source, the beginning of my SN addiction. My parents.

Now, I won’t make reference and place Freudian blame, that’s too easy, but I will explain. It’s simple, my parents have an above average social life. And, being raised amongst many of their different groups of friends has taught me acceptance and appreciation of different cultures; behavior and manners in different social settings; and apparently an affinity for socializing!

My brothers, sisters and I had our own descriptions of their groups.

There are, the “Japanese Uncles”, my parent’s friends from high school, basically McKinley High School Class of ‘67. The “Aunties”, my Mom’s co-workers, the original Yellow Pages publishing staff. Then there were the “Boys”, no not my father’s group of friends remember they‘re the “Japanese Uncles”, but the members of his numerous boys’ basketball teams, so of course we had the “Girls.” As we continued in life we added, the “Bobby Sox Gang”; the “Hula Studio” not to be mistaken with the “Kumu Lounge Gang”; the “Punahou People”; the “Golfing Friends”; the “Sewing Ladies”; the “People from PACT”, the “Urban Guys”; and we have our default group, “Da Kine Dem”.

A conversation on creating a guest list sounds a bit like this,

“So we got the Japanese Uncles, the Aunties what about the ‘Punahou People’?”

“How many is that so far? We forgot about the ‘Urban Guys’.”

“Nah, no need the all the ‘Boys’ and some of the ‘Girls’ live on the mainland now.”

“Okay, add ‘em up.”

“600 hundred people, that’s it right?”

“No, we forgot about ‘Da Kine Dem’.”
