the beatings will stop when morale improves

About half the people I told my new job experience to has told me to quit or if they were in my place that they would have quit already. The other half has told me to find another job and then quit. The pity party table for one has expanded into a consensus agreeing that not only does my job suck, but its bad enough to seriously consider quitting despite the state of the current job market.

I have spoken to my boss about certain issues and even though I didn't say so, he can tell that I'm on the verge of quitting. And even though he didn't say so, I have a feeling that there was someone who they hired right before me who did bail. I don't know if he really wants me to stay or if he just doesn't want to go through the hiring process all over again. It's probably a combination of both.

Meanwhile, the job hunting has started up again.

I am sorry that you hate your job. But it is a job nevertheless. There are many people out there who are unemployed and unable to obtain a job; you should consider yourself lucky that you have a job. People nowadays take a lot of things for granted; the food that we eat, the water we drink, the roof over our heads, the job that we have, so on and so forth. Just imagine if you don't have food to eat, water to drink, a roof over your head, and a job to pay for your bills. It's hard to see it because you probably have all this, but think of all the people that don't have anything. To these people, these things are very precious; but to the majority who have these things; they are just an every day thing that we have. No one knows how things are precious until they are gone. However, if you really hate it then just quit. It's just a job, right? Or is it? Like I said earlier, people who have a job and/or are able to obtain a job, only thinks it's just a job. But what about all the other people who had applied for the same job and who really needed a job, but didn't get it because you got it? However, if the job is really that bad, then by all means, quit. Happy job hunting!!! Posted by: Matt on July 29, 2003 7:17 PM
I can completely sympathize. When you don't have a job, you want one; when you get one, you realize you didn't want it - or at least not *that* one, maybe the one over there is better.. that pretty much sums up my working life. I spend most of my time trying to convince myself I don't hate my job and I ought to be grateful to have it. It's hard to separate how much is me (bitter at making 20k/year less than my last FT job, not enjoying the scut work I spend most of my time doing) and how much is the job (backbiting coworkers, a boss who doesn't trust me to take responsibility and loves talking down). I wish you the best of luck with your situation. And, if you have any interest in partnering to open a craft shop, let me know. I'm serious about this. Posted by: lisa on July 31, 2003 4:17 PM
