giving thanks

Pie results:

my brother: It was good.
me: *stare*
my brother: I mean it was great.
me: *stare*
my brother: Err. It was the best pie ever!
me: Yay! Thank you. And you made the best turkey ever!
my brother: Thanks.

guidelines

Apparently there are strict guidelines for pie duty. Okay. Not guidelines, but rules that if not followed will result in much glaring and scowling by loved ones.

1. Make enough pie that every single person invited will get a slice. Do not assume that someone else will bring pie.

That equals out to four pies. Four. I know other people are bringing dessert, but other desserts do not count into the pie equation because apparently on Thanksgiving we're all kinda piggy.

2. It has to be pie not squares.

Even tho I think they are the same, a big ol' pan (or two) of pumpkin squares doesn't count because it isn't pie.

3. Pie has to be made from scratch.

So much for my plans of frozen pie that would be lovingly reheated in the oven with my own two hands. I am tempted to use one or two frozen pies and tell people, "oh I did something different with that one, do you like it?" And see which one wins. You know I'd be rooting for Sara Lee.

Enjoy your Thanksgivings everyone.

still

It's been so long I barely recognize the place. I tripped up logging in wondering if it would still work and I'm surprised it did since HawaiiStories is looking like a ghost town of blogs. I need to change the sub-title to this blog, we're somewhere past the chapter of post-graduate.

If any readers have stuck around, some updates: My brother (and his family) moved and had to give up Carrots to the Humane Society. We told my niece that Carrots is going to find a nice happy home with a little girl just like her who loves bunnies to care for her, but we all really believe that Carrots has gone to the big carrot farm in the sky. I have moved three times in almost a one year period. Twice with Matt and once just me. That chapter with Matt has also come to a close.

My brother has put me on pie duty for this year's Thanksgiving. I was also on pie duty last year and recall it not going so well. I don't recall what went wrong. But I do distinctly remember when I was trying to make the crusts and him walking in with a look of horror and hijacking my pies before I could do anymore damage. This year he asked me if it was going to be a good pie this year. "Of course! You're going to taste it and tell me it's great... because I'm your sister."
