Reality Dolls
Toy companies from around the world recently gathered in New York to display their latest line of new toys. One such company is Teddie’s Toy’s Inc., which displayed a selection of dolls they call “Ghetto Kids”. The line of dolls include San Juan Carmen, Confederate Tammy, Starlett Stephanie, Beantown Cynthia, and New York Sammy. According to Teddie’s, the dolls were created to help encourage healthy discussions with children about issues such as race, color, and prejudice.
In my mind, any toy that will help provide communication between parent and child can’t be all bad. I just wish kids could be kids for as long as possible without having to deal with a bunch of issues that many adults have difficulties with. However, if these dolls prove to be helpful in discussing these issues, perhaps similar dolls can be created to promote a dialog about other issues children may face. Here are a few that I thought might be helpful:
* Sexually Promiscuous Pat
* Stalker Stanley
* Feminine Nathan
* Disgruntled Classmate Rick
* Alcoholic Bill
* Smoker’s Cough Kelly
* Crack-head Carl
* Illegal Alien Hector
* White Trash Flo (Trailer Park sold separately)
* Dead-beat Dan
* Pierced & Tattooed Yolanda
* Shoplifting Winona
