The lack of response from the federal government is appalling. I heard in the news that a couple of years ago, there were plans to improve the levees in New Or*leans but &lt;a href="http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001051313" rel="nofollow"&gt;GWB slashed funding&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="http://www.swingstateproject.com/2005/08/katrina_proves.php" rel="nofollow"&gt;diverted funds elsewhere&lt;/a&gt;.
