The Pushcart Prize

HEY U! Have you been nominated? Now's the time of year the literary reviews and online pubs are deciding who gets the gravy in poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and even essay. I think this is a great thing to be nominated, but NOT something that will make or break you as a writer. Remember, many of those editors have friends and they're more apt to nominate a pal than some stranger they just published, unless of course the writing is SO outstanding that a little voice inside the editor's head says, NOMINATE!

Winning a Pushcart Prize does look pretty nifty on your resume, especially if you are hoping to be a college prof who teaches Creative Writing.

Me? I've been nominated twice. One in 2002 and one in 2003. No Prize in 2002 and I'm not counting on one in 2003. If you want to read both nominations, they're in my new book BEFORE THE CITY, available on Amazon. com or directly from my publisher at http://www.lemonsharkpress.com. Can you tell me which 2 in the collection were recommended? If so, I'll send you a case of macadamia nuts for your New Year's prize, I kid you not!

Aloha and happy almost Xmas Eve! I hope Santa brings you lots of publications throughout the year.

ps. I have 2 story publications forthcoming: one in Hawai'i Review and a second in Liberty.
