Kids in Chatrooms

05.30.04

If this isn’t another reason for parents to monitor their children’s internet surfing, I don’t know what is.

A teenager created an “elaborate matrix of deceit” on the internet to persuade another boy he had fallen in love with to murder him, a court has heard.

The Hawaiian Way

05.30.04

I’ve come across this article after doing a search of Hawaiian Clubs in Japan. I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Aloha

“The one thing about Hawaiians is they introduce friends to friends all the time, whereas, in Japanese society, I think people want to protect their own friends, they don’t want to share information with others,” Takahashi says.

Hawaiian Music hits the big time

05.30.04

Next year’s Grammy Awards will include a Best Hawaiian Music Album category, state officials say, ending a 15-year effort to get the music industry’s most prestigious ceremony to recognize Hawaiian recordings. Read more …

I guess they’ve finally acknowledged the fact that our music is very popular around the world. People won’t automatically relate Don Ho and Tiny Bubbles to Hawaiian music anymore. He played a short rendition of The Pink Panther to kick off the interview. Unfortunately, I’m not able to attend the concert.

Asian-Pacific Celebration

As I’ve mentioned in this previous entry, we had a celebration on base to recognize the Asian-Polynesian cultures. This article(PDF format) was written up in our local base newspaper about that event. I want to go to New Zealand!!!

Geminis Galore

05.30.04

It’s that time of year again, when all the Geminis in the family celebrate their birthdays. My brother and grandson (Pono) both celebrated theirs yesterday and today is my Prodigal son’s birthday. If we were home, we’d probably have a combined party to honor all of them at once.

In a few week my youngest son and youngest aunt will be celebrating our birthdays too. The day after theirs, I’ll be celebrating my 43rd birthday. It’s funny, I mentioned to my hubby that he’ll be 45 this July. Then I went further and told him he’ll be 5 years short of half a century, 5 years before he’s 50 . He had a look of disbelief that he could ever be that old, but I made sure he was well aware of it. It’s one of the duties I have that I genuinely enjoy - - Conducting reality checks. heh.
