Email Gmail

06.26.04

One night, as I did my usual surfing the different blogsites, I came upon one that said we should always make our email address available to readers as some may not want to make their comments public. The only problem I had with posting my email address was my fear of the bots sniffing out the address and then I’d get spams galore. Then I went to read Ryan’s site and saw that someone had asked about Gmail and how she can get one of the invitations Gmail users are given to invite friends to try their email service. I wrote to Ryan and offered to send her an invitation. Anyway, he had already sent one to her so I still have two more invitations to give out. The thing about the invitations is that Gmail will give you more invitations after using the initial three.

Lastnight I re-installed my photoshop to make buttons for the WordPress and Technorati links under the Credit section of the sidebar menu. I was still thinking about putting up my email address so people could mail me if they wanted a Gmail invitation. Then tonight it hit me, instead of simply typing in my email address, I made it up on a little jpg to match the fonts of the site so it blends in perfectly. I know, sometimes I even amaze myself. So if any of you want a Gmail invitation, go ahead and send me a message or leave me a note in the comment section and I’ll get one out to you. Just a reminder, your email address will not be posted for others to view.

Amber Alert Ticker

I was reading Test case for Megan’s Law lastnight. Since Hawaii’s Supreme Court has found posting the identities of sex offenders unconstitutional I thought I should, at the very least, do my part in trying to protect our young children. As far as I’m concerned, sex offenders should have their names posted publicly. How else can we make decisions to best protect our children? Really, if a known sex offender moved in next to you, wouldn’t you want to be made aware of it?
At Always Safe, they list names of convicted sex offenders by state.

The Hawaii Sex Offender Registry has posted the following excerpt:

The Hawaii Supreme Court struck down Hawaii’s sex offender registration law as unconstitutional on November 21, 2001. As a result the online registry was removed.

Well, this has prompted me to do something to help our children in whatever way I could so I added the AMBER Alert ticker at the top of the blog page. It’s automatically updated when new alerts are made. If you want to get one on your blogsite, you can get the javascript code from CodeAmber.Org

Birthday wishes

I can’t believe we’re all in our 40’s, except my youngest brother who is rapping very loudly on the 40’s door. We haven’t all been together since my father’s funeral five years ago but I’ve spent some time with them individually, as a good big sister should. We’ve all grown up and got on with our lives, had children and slowly we’ve been grown too busy to get together as much as we should. And I’ve moved away from home …. again.

My brother Gino came to Japan last summer and brought my mother along on the trip. It was so good to see them, truly. Being the eldest child and only daughter for many years (until my hana’i sister came along), it was my duty to care for my brothers. I’ll admit, it was no easy task but the closeness we now share was well worth the headaches and bloody noses we gave each other (at one point or another) when we were young. I get all choked up when I start thinking about my brothers because I miss them.

Today is Gino’s 41st birthday. My wish for him is that he have peace of mind and a lifetime of love and happiness. Oh, and of course another trip to Japan. ;)

Ing-ya

Kamalani has a wee bit of a problem pronouncing “ia” and “ina” as in California, Angelina and Ballerina. Tonight was the first time her Papa heard it as she was pretending they were going to “Californg-ya”. He corrected her and asked her to repeat it. She said “Californg-ya” again. Then he corrected her again then asked her to repeat it. She just nodded and said, “yeah there”. I told her to say Angelina Ballerina and as expected, she said “Angeling-ya Ballering-ya”. I’m not sweating it, she’ll get it eventually.

Another thing she gets confused with is past tenses. She knows that words should end with an -ed but when she pronouces those words, she automatically adds an additional -ed. So words like missed is pronounced “misseded”. I just tell her it’s not “misseded” then she’ll drop the second -ed. Another example is the word got. She says “gotted” until I correct her. English is VERY confusing!

Recap -
Kamalani said: “Papa, we’re going to Californg-ya and I’m taking Angeling-ya Ballering-ya. We misseded you so much!”

Kamalani meant: Papa, we’re going to California and I’m taking Angelina Ballerina. We missed you so much!”
