Happy Birthday Bulla
Sep 1st, 2004 by Leimamo
Today is my oldest son’s birthday. At 9:01 p.m. he’ll be exactly twenty-seven. My, how quickly the years have passed. When hubby called lastnight, I mentioned how our son was only 3 years short of being 30 years old! Just the sound of that instantly made us feel VERY OLD.
We’ve decided to live in Washington, partly due to low crime rate in the area we’re looking to retire at and partly because we’ll be smack in the middle of our children who live on the East Coast and those who live in Hawaii, but mostly because we can’t afford to live in Hawaii. It’s such a shame, isn’t it? Washington is ideal because there are military facilities that we can take advantage of, the drive to the nearest MAC terminal isn’t that far so we can fly space available to Hawaii and (hopefully) the East Coast to visit our kids and grandkids.
So, if you’re reading this, Happy Birthday Bulla! Your gift is on the way! ![]()

Happy Birthday, Bulla!
I turned 30 this year, and my mom and I joked back and forth: we didn’t know which of us felt OLDER!! 30 is so psychologically damaging! lol! At least the birthday was. Once Mom and I got over the shock, I gradually realized 30 is one of the best years I’ve ever had! I call it the “Establishment Year,” because I’m officially out of the self-doubting, vocation-wandering era!
My husband lived in Washington for a while, and he loved it. He said the landscape is beautiful, and the people are great. Sounds to me like you’ve thought this through really well. I think you’re going to love Washington!
