Blue Christmas

I suck at shopping. No, seriously. I hate shopping for gifts. What I’m saying is that we have two presents under our tree and both were gifts from Meg’s friend. One for Meg and the other for Kamalani. I haven’t done anything that even resembles shopping. Ok, I did some online window shopping but made no purchases.
I never thought I’d ever be this bad. As each year passes, I have stronger feelings that buying toys for the kids is money wasted. I watch shows like Clean Sweep and see how much stuff people accumulate without even realizing it only to have it tossed out or sold at a yard sale for a tiny fraction of what they paid for it. I’ve sat for weeks trying to decide what to get my grandchildren that won’t make me feel like I’ve thrown away hard working money and I couldn’t think of anything worthwhile. Seriously, they all have so much toys they don’t really need anymore.
I don’t know how Santa does this year after year. I’m having an anxiety attack! I need ideas.
Books are always good, I always liked getting them. Also, crayon kits. But if they’re too young for those, then maybe something that will last longer than toys, like photo albums or keepsake books that you can start off with some photos or keepsakes and let them keep going. Well, the parents really. I dunno. I’m just as bad buying gifts. I tend to do things like make cds.
aLoha aunite, it’s been so long! I’ll be 25 tommorow! ah..im sad! anyway, how old are yoru grandchildren?? maybe stuff that are educational for them?i miss you guys
I love giving them book and other educational products. I do love the idea of giving them keepsakes as gifts. I hope once we’re moved back to the states, I can concentrate on making them some keepsakes that they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives. I never thought of making them CDs. I think that’s a wonderful idea. A compilation of Wiggles, Chipmunks, Disney Characters greatest hits!
My oldest grand daughter will be 5 on Christmas eve, Kamalani will be 5 in March, Kapono is 3 and Ikaika just turned 1. We miss you guys too, Joyce. Happy Birthday!
Thanks for the ideas, I think they’re great!
I know what you mean about money wasted on toys! Yet it’s hard NOT to have lots of shiny presents under the tree for the little ones. Wish I could give you some suggestions.
Really enjoyed reading some of your posts. Found your link via HawaiiStories.com and just signed up. Hope they’ll add me to the community. I miss the islands so much!
Aloha Rowena and thank you for visiting this site. We want to visit Italy so badly. Maybe one of these days .. ~crossing fingers~. I ended up sending them money. Their parents can get them whatever they need since I don’t have a clue. HawaiiStories is a great place. You might also want to check out the sister site, HawaiiThreads.com. It’s a forum for islanders and islanders at heart. I think you’ll enjoy it.
