It's just us

Meet the neigbors

08.31.05

I took Lopaka shopping today. We were at Safeway in his favorite area - The Bakery and my neighbor from across the street saw us and stopped to chit-chat for a bit. I finally introduced myself so I could ask for his and his wife’s name. When I saw them a few days ago in the NEX, it didn’t even occur to me to introduce myself because they already knew we were neighbors. I told hubby I met them and he asked if I got their names because he had forgotten it and he didn’t want them to know. So this time I was sure to get their names from him.

So, we were chatting for a few minutes and he was telling me that his daughter is having a birthday party this Saturday so he wanted us to bring Kamalani over. I told him I would and as he walked away Megs asked if I knew who he was. I told her he was our neighbor. She said, no he isn’t. He’s this really nice guy who comes to the grocery store that she works at with his wife and they always stop to talk to her. I told her again that he was our neighbor. Then she laughed as she realized why he didn’t give us his address when he invited Kamalani to his daughter’s birthday party. She said, “Ohhhh, I was wondering why he didn’t give us the address to their house.” I swear that girl dyed her hair blonde once too many times. It’s gotten into her brain and made her daft.

Can we say Yippee!

OMG, I have been trying to figure out what was wrong with the comment pages for this theme. I couldn’t get the stupid page to show up. I worked until I got frustrated then I put it off for a few months.

My daughter was looking at the default theme one day and she said, “Mom, your site looks so plain.” That did it! I was determined to figure it out once again. This time, I went through every back-up file I had for this theme and I finally found my fuck-up. I was missing a whole line of commands. It’s a good thing I practice patience with Kamalani or this computer would’ve been thrown over the balcony of the deck.

Speaking of the deck. We need to replace some of the planks. Some of them are weak and when you walk on them, you can feel it bending and ready to crack. With my luck and my weight, I just know I’d be the one falling through it. Maybe another project for hubby to work on in the near future.

Kamalani will be starting kindergarten next week. I’m as excited as she is. The kindergarten programs here are only half days. It has something to do with lack of funds. I don’t see how that could be in the school she’s attending since majority of the students attending are military dependents and the schools get federal subsidies for each dependent child. Anyway, half day is better than nothing, I guess. It just doesn’t feel like school to me. She’ll be in school for less hours than when she was going to day care in Japan. I don’t know how they advance these children to 1st grade when they only have a fraction of a normal school day in which to learn. Go figure.

But why?

08.28.05

But why, when I want to sit on the deck at midnight to enjoy a quiet moment while I smoke a cigarette, do some of these young adults feel the need to speed past our house. I understand that they need to let go and enjoy their lives but does it mean they need to make their cars so damned loud when they rev their engines to speed in a residential area?

It’s kinda funny when you think about how the car designer work hard every year to design a car that is smoother, quieter and more efficient only to have these kids (yeah, some of the adults are kids too) modify them so they can burn more gas by speeding and then if that weren’t enough, they do stuff to make them louder. I don’t know if any of them work — I would guess that they just live at home with their working parents — because they all seem to come out in the middle of the night to drive through quiet sleepy neighborhoods. School will be starting soon and I hope these kids aren’t on the roads during school time. And if they are, I hope they have sense enough not to speed when children are walking to and from school. I would hate for an accident to happen, especially one that could’ve been avoided.

My neck and shoulders have been hurting all day. I might just be grouchy so the noise seems extra loud tonight. I dunno, I should just go take a muscle relaxer and try to get some sleep. If those damned Vin Deisel wanna-bes would just park their cars and go to sleep too. ~L~ Goodnight!

She’s back .. Sorta

Kamalani phoned home yesterday morning to tell her mom to tell me not to go there to pick her up. I was crushed. How could she stand being away from me for this long? I got over it about as quickly she did the night before. It gave me and Meg time to clean the room we use as our home office. It was cluttered with papers that needed to be filed away. Hubby was worried that I wasn’t able to keep my records straight but it was an organized mess and I knew where everything was. But as usual, he was right and things just needed to be put away. We even had our ironing board packed with booklets and pamphlets and other junk mail stacked on it because we ran out of room on the makeshift desk.

I had attempted to straighted out that room a few times but everytime I started to do something, Kamalani or hubby would ask me to do something for them and it broke the momentum *coughbullshitcough*. The truth is — I can’t stay focused long enough.

So anyway, I finally filed things away and everything looks so nice and neat in there except for the file called “Warranties”. Holy crap Batman! I have warranties in there that are older than a few of our kids. Some of the items have long since died and went to small appliance heaven. Yep, I think it’s time I weeded through that file, it might take me a week though at the rate I move.

Back to Kamalani. (more…)
