Wish I were there
Aug 20th, 2005 by Leimamo
Keali’i Reichel is coming to town and I wish I were going to his concert. Here’s a write up about his upcoming concert in the Seattle Times Arts & Entertainment Section.
For something completely different, there’s Keali’i Reichel, tomorrow at Summer Nights at South Lake Union Park. The handsome young singer-songwriter-dancer, currently the top recording artist in Hawaii, sings mostly in Hawaiian, but also in English. He performs pop ballads and love songs, in a warm, sweet singing voice.
The half-German, half-native Hawaiian is also a master hula dancer. He will perform with his band and dance company. The show should be a perfect way to end a warm summer day.

I attended one of his shows in Phoenix some years ago for Mothers Day, my kids got tickest and we all went. His Mom & Grandma was there too. I’m tall as his Grandma. LOL He is an awesome performer and it was a great show. He is truely talented. I mean just him & his guitar singing was outstanding so having the halau and backup singers and muscians was da bestest.
So sorry you couldn’t make it. Hopefully next time….
Malama pono.
Hui Leimamo:
We went to the concert last night. Absolutely awesome. Too bad most of the haoles in the audience probably didn’t realize what kind of music he plays (last night his set included cuts from his 1st, 2nd and latest CDs). My guess is they saw the review and went,” hmmm…we’ve always liked Hawaii when we visited, so lets go hear some Hawaiian music…” thinking it was more like the haole Hawaiian songs that Don Ho sings (haha!). I think some of them really got freaked when Keali’i described how and why some of the songs he sang were written (the kaona stuff probably blew some of their uptight minds away) and when he and his halau danced the mele, well, I’m sure more than one haole was shocked (the mele about Lunalilo was the raunchiest and funniest).
He hadn’t been in Seattle in over 5 years (although he’s toured the West Coast a couple of times in that time) because of promoter problems up here, but a really legitimate promoter (very professional) worked with him this time and the show was perfect.
Wish you could’ve been there too.
A hui hou,
Miulang
I sat in the back of him for hula competition when he judged. Delightful and respectable fella. Talented to the max.
Muilang,
I’m sooooo jealous! Those too-tighties can have their HollarWood hula songs, I’ll take Keali’i any day.
Lynn,
I met him at an autograph signing promo he had at the Navy Exchange at Pearl Harbor. He is the sweetest thing. Oh and he’s handsome and talented too.
Lika,
Let’s hope he’ll be back in this area again (hopefully SOONER than 5 years from now). Next time, nothing will keep me from attending .. except maybe snow.
