Dinner at Todai’s
May 28th, 2006 by Leimamo
One of our friends is leaving for a six month deployment so they planned for all of us to go out to eat at Todai’s. I packed my camera and new batteries so that I could take pictures of the food. I was so excited about going since I’ve never been there before but heard so many great things about the food.
I went online and checked the website. I browsed through the entire site, drooling at the menu and even mapquesting it in case I got lost in the caravan. As luck would have it, when we met at our friend’s house, they didn’t remember how to get there so they took my directions and we were to follow them. Since two of the guys were drinking from Friday night, they had a younger guy drive then me and hubby followed while another couple followed us. Big mistake. We weren’t even out of our town when we approached a traffic light. The lead driver forgot that we were supposed to be following him and he ran the yellow light, leaving us behind at the RED. Then we caught up because there’s only one road leading off the island. They took backroads which were supposed to be faster - or so I thought. Granted, there was no traffic, but it wasn’t shorter time-wise. And lets remember the two drunks in the lead car who needed to make bathroom stops along the way. So we finally make it to the freeway together, this time we’re the last car. Then the lead driver forgets we’re following him (again) when he decided to keep switching lanes, me and hubby were cracking up while trying to keep up with them. I forgot to mention it was pouring too. We finally get to the exit and they make a wrong turn so we end up going in the opposite direction. After circling the town a few times, we stop at a gas station and the attendent points us back on track. Meanwhile, us and the other couple are laughing because we chose to follow the car with the drunks. So lolo yeah?
We head in the right direction and when I point out Todai’s to hubby, he decides he wants to take a short cut only to find out he’ll have to cross some railroad tracks if he wants to get there first. So he turned and got back on the right road. Okay, so we’re finally there. The place is packed. While we’re waiting for our table my friend Chris tells me to go scope out the area so that I’ll know where everything is. So me and hubby goes scoping and when we return, our friends are talking to this lady from Aiea. The lady asked if we were scoping and I told her we were strategizing. We were mapping out our plan of attack. She laughed then got up and said she was going to strategize too.
They called our number and we put down our things at the table then it was every man for himself. Me and hubby hit the sushi and poke counter then on to the shortribs and shrimp tempura. We ate so much food, some of us had second and third helpings. Everyone said they only had a light breakfast so that they could save their appetites for dinner. The food was so onolicious. The desserts were the perfect ending to an excellent meal. Our friend Riley is a nut. First he asked the waitress if we could have take out boxes, she laughed and said we can’t take out. He was one of the guys who was drinking before we left so when he got done eating, his eyes automatically closed for a short nap. Then waiter came around to clear out empty plates and Riley woke from his slumber and asked if we could just stay for breakfast. The waiter laughed and shook his head, NO. ~LOL~
When we left, I thought for sure I’d be snoring on the ride home but nope. I had to keep watch on the lead car until we got on the freeway. As we got closer to home, I asked hubby if we could stop at the Casino and to my surprise he said sure. So we took a detour from the caravan and spent the next 7 hours at the casino. I hit the slot machines and hubby hit the tables. We ended up leaving with more money than we came with. I’d like to think of that as Leimamo’s revenge. We leave the casino in good spirits and finally roll into our house at 5:00. Hubby suggested we take the girls out for brunch (if we’re able to wake up in time) but I told him we should just take my brother (and the girls) out to dinner for his birthday today. Well, the girls woke up and asked if we could go to brunch. Meg found out the CPO club allows anyone to dine there for Sunday brunch so hubby gave her enough money for the two of them while we caught up on some much needed sleep. And speaking of sleep, I need to get back under the covers and get a few more hours of shut-eye since the house is quiet again.
Remember that camera I packed? Well, I forgot all about it so I didn’t take pictures of the food. But that’s okay. Now I have a reason to go there again. ~L~
