The Mumster

I called my mom yesterday and this is sort of how it went:
mom:Good morning daughter (She has caller ID on her phone)
me: Hi mom
mom: So what’s wrong?
me: Why does something have to be wrong for me to call you.
mom: Ok, um did I miss a holiday or something?
me: (laughing) Not that I know of, did I?
mom: Well, you hardly ever call me so I thought I missed something.
me: Nope mom, you don’t have alzheimers (She likes to use that excuse). I just wanted to tell you that I came across the blankets you sewed for my kids and they’re still in good shape.
mom: I knew you’d take good care of it. You know I made those with my pump machine.
me: Yep, I know and I wrote about it, and about how resourceful you are. I also wrote that I need to get myself a Hope Chest to store the things that are precious to me.
mom: You decided to live in Washington so you’re not getting mine. I would’ve left it to you if you moved back home because I know you’d appreciate it. I guess I’ll just have to go down the line and give it to someone else on the condition that it never leaves Hawaii.
me: You should give it to Jamie (my hanai sister).
mom: I’ll make firewood with it first, she won’t take care of it.
me: Well, umm I just wanted to tell you that I came across the blankets while we were sorting through our stuff and I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate all the work involved in making them. I’ll talk to you later.
I didn’t want to cut the conversation short but I had an appointment and I could tell from the few minutes I was on the phone with her, it was going to be a long talk. heh heh. I love her to death and I always hang up the phone laughing to myself while thinking, “That’s my mom.”
