It's just us

Makeover

10.11.06

As you know, this is our first real house. Not that the other homes we’ve lived in weren’t houses, it’s just that this time we get to decorate and paint it without needing approval from the base housing office. And that’s just what we’ve decided to do. Of course we’re starting with a small project to see how labor intensive it is then we’ll work on the big stuff like the living room/kitchen/dining room areas.

Sometime in May, we took our color samples that we got from Home Depot and ordered the paints (5 different colors) to give Kamalani a Disney Princess look, less the castle and poster bed and tiara and etc etc etc. What we wanted was to paint her room in pretty-girlie type pastel colors. I thought she’d find the colors soothing and we hoped it would make her WANT to sleep in her own bedroom rather than on the bed with us. She nagged all summer long but we weren’t in the mood for painting until a few weeks ago. Then we had guests over so we put it off, then we sorta lagged around the house trying to psyche ourselves up to start prepping.

Well, yesterday hubby unsealed one of the cans of paint and started with the ceiling. It’s sort of bright white with a touch of pink, he also painted her t.v. stand that color and later this week, we’re emptying her dresser so we can paint that too. Tomorrow, we’ll be painting the walls 2 different shades of pink, I think or maybe it was pink and blue? Shit, we bought the paint so long ago I can’t even remember. But anyway, I know it’s two different colors. Kamalani wants to paint with us but I don’t want splatters all over the carpet. I told her she can enjoy the room once it’s finished.

By the way, I asked her if this means she’ll be sleeping in her own “Princess” room. She looked at me as if I were crazy, and said “No”. Then she said maybe when she’s 7 or 8 or 12. Oh joy!

Bring out the Chopsticks

Ever since Kamalani was about 3 years old, I wanted her to take piano lessons. I used to wish I could play piano like my grandmother did. She was one of the people who couldn’t read music but she could play by ear. My mom signed me up for lessons when I was about 9 years old, but I couldn’t grasp the concept of notes and beats and treble/bass clefs. It was easier for me to learn French back then.

Lokahi ‘Ohana O Hawai’i Ho’olaulea

10.03.06

A friend called today to tell me about the Fall Ho’olaulea this weekend and she wanted me to go with her. I checked out the website and I want to go so badly but I have house guests so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it or not. Cross your fingers for me. Hell, cross your eyes too just in case.

I’m supposed to let our other island friends know so they can plan to go too.  I’m going to be so mad at them if they go without me.  nah, only joking.  But if they tell me how much fun they had, all bets are off.  I’m gonna smack them!

World’s Strongest Dad

I got an email from a friend of mine today with a link to a website that featured an article and video of the World’s Strongest Dad. After watching the video twice, all I can is “Awesome”.  Thanks Kim!

All about the butt

10.03.06

One morning I was standing near the kitchen counter and I just so happened to lean over a little bit.  Kamalani came behind me and started patting my ass.  Then she said, “Grams, your butt is shaped like a lovely heart.”  Not just any old heart, no no, it’s shaped like a LOVELY heart. heheheh.  Then I told hubby what she said.  Like a good husband, he didn’t have any additional comments to make.  ~LOL~

Then Kamalani asked Meg what shape she had, we both answered at the same time, “You have an apple ass!”
