It's just us

Lucky you live Hawaii

Those words have never been truer. This year has been exceptionally freaky, weatherwise. We’ve already broken most records for rainfall, we’ve had an early snowfall last month and we recently had a devasting wind storm that left hundreds of thousands without power. We were fortunate to have our power restored after about 30 hours since it went out.

Our friend told us that they were traveling about 60 miles to get a generator for their home. She was concerned about keeping her fridge working because she is a daycare provider. I wasn’t too concerned about keeping the food from going bad because the temperature had dropped to below freezing. I was more concerned about missing the finale of Survivor. It’s not like I couldn’t put our food in a cooler and leave it on the deck to stay cold. It’s so cold the foods could freeze. Good for keeping foods from going bad, not good for arthritic joints. *LOL*

Another friend of ours is still without power and she lives less than a mile away. A tree had snapped and landed on their power lines. I suppose crews are working to restore power to entire neighborhoods so her street might not be a priority. They took this time to go on a family ski vacation up on the mountains. At least they’ll have a heated hotel room. I feel very sorry for the elderly and children who are in the areas that were told they’d be without power for at least another week. The night time temperatures have dropped to the low 20s°.

My mom called the day after we had our power restored because my uncle who lives in Texas had called to ask her if we were alright. I love my uncle! She told him she didn’t even know about the wind storm and that she guessed we were okay since no word is usually good word.

Well, I hope those people who are without power will get the greatest Christmas gift ever . . . Their power restored.
