It's just us

29 years and counting

09.24.07

We celebrated our 29th anniversary yesterday. I wouldn’t say celebrate because we didn’t do anything special. Hubby wanted to do something special for me but I just wasn’t in any mood to go out for dinner so instead I made a big pot of stew and we just chilled at home. It was relaxing, maybe too relaxing because I didn’t want to wake up for work today.

With the temperatures dropping and the rainy season upon us, I should be at home snuggled in a blankie watching court shows while I munch on ….. bon bons. Yeah, now that’s my kind of celebration!

I overheard a girl talking to her friend and she was saying how she was with her ex-boyfriend for 6 years. Actually, I think her words were, “I gave him 6 years of my life and I’m never doing that again for anybody.” I turned to her and said, “We just celebrated our 29th anniversary and that doesn’t count the years together before we got married.” Sometimes you just gotta take a chance. :)

UnPoplar

We had four poplar trees that we wanted to get rid of. Now being from Hawaii, we don’t see nor know how to get rid of them. We hate the trees because they shed so much leaves in the fall that it drives us and the neighbors crazy. So, we had a brilliant idea. Why not chop it down, like hubby did to the cherry tree? Great right? WRONG. Hubby and Son #3 spent 2 days bringing down the four humongous trees only to have a zillion little “suckers” pop up all over my yard. So instead of picking up the gazillion leaves that fall, hubby now has to mow the suckers every week to control them. I asked a guy that I work with how to control the growth, he kinda snickered and said, just keep mowing them, they’ll eventually die. I asked him how long it’ll take, he said “oooh, a few years, at least.”

Bad news: They’ll die in a few years as long as hubby keeps mowing the suckers. My yard is now half full with poplar suckers sprouting all over the place.

Good news: Hubby does the yard.

A taste of home

Guess who’s coming to town? Him. And guess who got tickets? MMMMEEEEE !!!

Hubby saw the commercial last night and he asked me how far Emerald Queen Casino was from here. I told him it was past the airport, close to Tacoma. I didn’t know why he asked me about the casino when there are closer casinos if he was planning our anniversary. Then a couple of minutes later my phone rang and it was our friend who just got off the phone with her daughter. Apparently her daughter saw the same commercial and called her mom to tell her that HE was coming to town so of course she called me to ask if we were going. I told her I’d go if she goes so we’re going!

Of course I’m always late finding out stuff so by the time I got to the site to order the tickets, we were left with the seats waayyyyy back. I don’t mind though, I just want to be there. I want to be surrounded by other island people and who knows, maybe I’ll get to meet some from Aloha World or Hawaii Stories.

Things you shouldn’t do …

when drinking gray goose:

  • Call someone you miss and sing to them because you’ll end up being the dreaded “crying drunk”
  • Drink with people who refer to you as “the ex-friend” because they’ll offer to mix your drink then get you all f*d up.
  • Forget that the room will start spinning while you’re trying to sleep because you let the people who refer to you as the “ex-friend” mix your drinks.
  • Mega-Loser

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been dreaming of what I would do with the $250+ million when I win the Mega Millions Lotto jackpot. I saw myself living on the beach of my own tropical island, complete with cabana boys, sipping on chi-chi’s with little umbrellas in them. Needless to say, I wasn’t one of the four lucky winners of $330 million sharing the jackpot. :(

What would you do with $250+?
