I’m allergic to my office. No, seriously. I’ve had a lingering cold for about 3 or 4 weeks now and I finally went to the doctor’s to get some meds but only because on top of my sinus infection, I also had neck pain. On top of that, the left side of my chest started hurting, then my fiingertips were tingling. I thought I was having a heart attack. Fo’ real.
So I went to the ER last Monday and they took an Xray of my chest, all was clear. They hooked me up to the EKG machine, heart is ok. They took blood and fed me some pain meds. They also took an Xray of my neck then gave me a referral to get an MRI done as soon as possible. I told the doc that I had an MRI done a few years ago so after 5 hours of testing and more testing, they released me with antibiotics, muscle relaxers and a neck brace. She also told me to stay home from work for the next 3 days and to follow up with my regular physician on Thursday.
Well, my regular doctor wasn’t available so I went to see someone else. You gotta understand the way military hospitals go. You see whoever is available unless you have time to wait for your primary care physician to see you. Well, that was a wasted visit because the doctor told me to call and make an appointment for my primary physician after she read the report from the MRI that I had done 2 years ago which pretty much says I have a few slipped discs in my neck. She thinks that could be the cause of my fingertips going numb. Carpal Tunnel in my left hand? Perhaps. I’ll find out as soon as I make the appointment. For now though, I’ve already used up the week of sick leave that I get for the entire year, and I’ve only been working there for 4 months.
When I went back to work on Friday, I was still moving slowly because of the meds I had taken the night before. I barely survived that day. This past weekend, I took more of the strong meds and rested. This morning I was feeling a whole lot better … until I stepped into my office. My nose got stuffy all over again and when I stepped outside, it cleared up. I told my co-worker I must be allergic to the office. She laughed and said it might be due to the leaky roof, maybe there’s some mold up there. I wondered if they wanted to get rid of me but didn’t want to pull a Donald on me so rather than saying, “You’re fired!” they’d just kill me off? When I got home from work, I told my daughter about my allergy to the office. She thinks I’m a drama queen. *L*
