Wednesday evening we went to the 40th Anniversary dinner of our friends Nave & Lettie. It was surprise dinner put on by their daughters. Surprisingly enough it was a big surprise, they had no idea. They thought they were going to a reception for one of the grandkids who graduted.
The dinner was held at a restaurant. People were responsible for paying for they’re own meals. Everyone was asked to wear red because 40th anniversay is ruby. The room was decorated in red roses. The Daughters made some cool placemats. Each paper placemat had the wedding picture and whole bunch of other pictures of the couple and the family over the past 40 years. It was really interesting to see all the different pictures.
They showed a video of people who couldn’t be there but wanted to offer their congratulations. The grandkids sang a parody of a song they had made up. Several friends/drinking buddies came with their guitars and sang some of their original “drinking” songs.
There were four people from the original wedding party, two of the bridesmaid and two of the groomsmen. The Daughters ask that they go up and tell everyone about that day in 1965; since obviously the kids weren’t there. It was so funny because everyone of them started out the same and said, ‘40yrs ago was a long time and hard to remember but………’
One of the bridesmaid said she was glad there was the wedding pictures there to jog her memory. From looking at the pictures the one thing that comes to mind is that “they were ALL skinny.” *L* She said she was still in high school and remembered really wanting to go to a dance that night, and she did. One of the groomsman said he had Wranglers and boots on with his tux because he had to go to a rodeo and as soon as the ceremony was done he took off.
The couple opened their presents & cards. Most people gave them a card and $40. The couple made hundreds of dollars that’ll come in handy. The Daughters had pitched in and gave their parents $200 plus a weekend at a casino/resort.
It was a really fun and nice evening hanging out with friends. 40 years is a dang long time to be married. We’re talking about 1st wife & 1st husband, old school. Must be seriously Catholic. *L* Our friends and I were all comparing how long we have to hit 40yrs. We were just cracking up. I’m close behind them what am I talking about. LOL

Tita Lika, what a wonderful story. I felt as if I was there with everyone celebrating Nave and Lettie’s 40th Wedding Anniversary. My applause to their daughters for doing what they did. Chicken skin.
This coming September 13, 2005…my late husband and I would have celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary!
Have a nice weekend,
