It doesn’t take a rocket science or nobel prize in anykind of science to figure out that if you keep earphones/headphones blasting with music in your ears, eventually you will lose a significant part of your hearing. Eventually.
As a child of da 60’s it was all about loud music. I loved it. I still do. But not directly on my eardrums. Oh but remember going to dances and dancing in front the speakers. *L* Who knew that listening to loud music is bad for your ears, I didn’t. I know for myself that my hearing is not the best because of loud music, especially in the car crusing. Before ‘pump up the volume’ and ‘bumpin’ WE just plain ole’ cranked it up! (oops, I still do) Sometimes with the windows closed. Ok we won’t go there. Kids may not believe it but WE listened to loud music. Hey but there wasn’t no f-words, b-words, and flat out I want to lick this or that explicit lyrics. We listened to stuff with class. Classic tunes. *L* Thirty years from now will kids be listening to 50cent, Nelly or Snoop?
Marvin Gaye. Rascals. Smokey Robinson. Led Zeplin. Iron Butterfly. Indagoddadahvida baybee. (I can hear y’all humming da bass line) Talk about digressing; I’m totally having a flashback here. I should ask for medical pakalolo. nahnahnah Do you know they play “Stairway to Heaven” on the smooth jazz station. Don’t dat just date our okoles. Yeah so our generation is dated, but they were great simpler times. Hello, headphones….earphones….oh yeah, so like I was saying…….
I know my hearing is not its bestest. But kids nowadays are going to be half deaf or real deaf, way before they are my age now. I do have a CD player and I do listen to music and/or subliminal CDs BUT not constantly. A lot of times I just put on one earphone not both.
Kids are not going believe their parents. I believed my parents because there was a belt involved and you learned to keep the sound down real fast. I know my son was/is way hud head. I always told him if I can hear what he is playing on his walkman/discman and there are ipods now; then thats bad for his ears and he needs to turn it down lower. I’ve been around alot of people young & old with their earphones on and I can hear everyword & the music playing. These are the people who will end up with a permanent hearing aid later in life.
My brother-in-law could not stand having his son/my nephew and my kids walking around with their earphones on. It was like the kids were tuning out everybody. They were.
Soooo what he use to do was; talk with no sound, he just moves his lips when he talked to da kids. The kids would remove their earphones and ask, “what’d you say?” He would say something outrageous like: I asked you if you wanted me to buy you a car tell me now, but I guess you don’t want one cause you didn’t answer right away. Or he would say, I asked you if you wanted $300 to go shopping but you didn’t answer me so I’m giving it to Grandma - or something to that effect. It was either about money or cars. After that happening a couple of times, whenever the kids saw my BIL they would take their earphones off. He would just laugh at them.
It bugs me to see little kids with earphones on. These kids will be bombarding their eardrums for more years then past generations. Granted there are times and places for kids to listen to their music with earphones on. I’m just saying it should be limited and not loud. Kids don’t think its going to hurt them. Thats cause they aren’t older yet. They won’t how know much its going to hurt them till they are 40-ish give or take some.
If you wanna be a doctor, Audiology would be a good field to specialize in because they are going to be in demand. I know that cause I see a specialist an ENT, ear, nose, throat aka otolarynxcologist or something like that and I asked him. He says he has to refer the hearing loss people to the Audiology doc.
I suppose its like anything else though. Moderation.
