I was reading an article in the newpaper about a guy in South Korea who played online games for like 50 hours and died. In fact that country has had like 2 deaths caused by continuous online game playing. They become literally consumed by the game they are playing online.
The people who died suffered heart failure, they just played till they expired. Thats the ulitmate obsessive compulsive disorder. I think computer gaming or computers in general bring out the OCD in all of us. How many of us suffer withdrawls just because we can’t check email? Not everyone takes it to extremes. Dying from playing online games is pretty extreme.
The article talked about South Korea being the most wired country. They have Internet Cafe’s were people just play endlessly. They are even in the process of building like a stadium place where people can play and compete with big screens so people can see the competition going on. They consider it an e-sport? I always thought sports involved running, jumping, some physical activity. Isn’t sports movement? E-sports would involve eye hand coordination, the hands constantly typing the eyes constantly scanning watching the screen. Thats a sport?
I’m not an X-box, Playstation or whatever electronic game dillys there are available for home use. Back in the day we had an Atari? LOL Or the old Ninetendo. *L* We had like 2 games. After I bought the machine dilly for the kids, I couldn’t afford the games. My son use to try and teach me to play. I would ask, “what is the objective?” He would get mad and say just go like this, pressing all the dam buttons really fast. I didn’t get it. *L* I have the kids old game boy with only 2 games. I only know how to play Tetris. I suck at it. LOL
I think electronic games make kids attention deficit or deficit in something, just like watching too much TV. Call me old school. Some kids don’t know how to go outside and play. They go outside, sit and play with they’re little electronic game thingee. I hate seeing kids at the park playing with electronic games. Parks are for running, climbing, playing , doing physical activities. Like anything else the use electronic or online games should not be excessive. How long is not excessive? *L*
I was watching a TV show, where the kids played online games about killing people anden they went out and started copying the game in life. They went out and run over somebody and stole their stuff. Then wen they got busted their defense was that they didn’t know what they were doing, they acted like they thought they still playing. Such BS, like they didn’t know the difference. They frkng did, they just used it as an excuse.
The games I play online is nothing like the scifi, role playing, or kill people games. I play mahjong or word blast, a form of scrabble. Harmless games. Yet I get sucked into the challenge and not wanting to stop cause I know I can up my score and do better. Its that do better that keeps me going. It becomes obessessive compulsive behavior that could bring out any mental disorder, eyes focus on screen and clicking away hours on end, blocking out everything except whats in front of me. I think on some days I’m more excessive then others. It becomes an escape from reality.
I guess I’ll go play some MahJong now. *L*

I bought the same games for my son. My late husband and I were hooked on Game Boy! Yeah, it saddens me too, when I see youngsters playing their electronic games in the parks, doctor’s offices, Mall, etc. Nothing can be better than watching a child playing in the park, or reading a book.

I play MahJong too…if you talking about the one that you match tiles and not the real Mah Jong. I also like to do jigsaw puzzles. I carry one small portable Scrabble in my car so we can just pull um out if we feel like playing when we go to park. I bought from Toy’s R Us only was about $19.00 and come in one zippered case and the tiles snap on so move around.

Da last jigsaw puzzle I did was 1500 pieces and took me a month. That was this past winter, haven’t done one since.
